I would like to setup FTP so I can install my NSPs from my PCs hard drive straight to the switch through FTP using SX Installer but I can't get it working...

I've downloaded FileZilla server.
Setup a new server listening on port 21, host is set to "localhost" on filezilla
passive mode setting set to "use the following IP": localhost
Allowed Filezilla server through the windows firewall
created a user with password, added a shared folder with my nsps
Server launches fine and I can access it with those details through Filezilla Client

On the switch SX Installer
Went to File Browser
created a new connection
Setup protocol to FTP, Host to localhost, port to 21, tried both with the path and without just to see if that made a difference, entered my username and password
When I click on the ftp link create I get network error: blank

What am I doing wrong...?

thanks for help!

UPDATE:
it's working now... I have typed my actual IP address from my computer (using ipconfig to find out what it was). All good, a bit slow though compare to installing from usb directly.. I only get about 3mb/s

With usb3 ethernet adapter and ethernet attached nas with proftpd as server I get ~40MB/s. Very fast! I hope some day we will be able to mount xci directly from ftp because at this rate most games should be playable without issues!

FTP is the wrong protocol for that. there maybe eventually a virtual drive option but it would likely be SMB.

SX OS does already allow external xci mounting.

OMG this is fuckin awesome.
Your post inspired me to set this up and i’m really impressed.
So easy just to install stuff as needed over ftp now and amazing to see the whole catalog for perusal.
thought the speed would be an issue but getting 12+Meg a second, ex. 1-2 switch in about a minute.
Great stuff

my speed got a little better... about 5mb/s tweaking filezilla a bit but it still pretty shit... I should be able to get more with my setup... It's all connected through wifi, wifi router is an n router, my computer got a ac1200 wifi antenna which is fast. I can get easy 25mb/s on my network when I use moonlight to stream games on my TV... just wondering how I could fix that. Not complaining, I love the convenience but if anyone has suggestions please let me know! FYI, The switch is 10 inches from the modem, turning off the windows firewall made no difference... I do have a VPN on but that should not make a difference since I'm not going through the internet

Quick question... aside from installing NSPs, is to possible to launch and play XCI games through FTP as well?

any Ethernet adapter would do? i might have one from my Wii kicking around in a box
Wii adapter will work. But not any adapter, I made the mistake of buying a random adapter only then to realize that the switch doesn't support it, so I googled a bit and there's a list of actually supported adapters.

Wifi speeds are heavily dependent on your router and how congested the wifi spectrum is. Some people get 3 MB/s over wifi, some people get 25 MB/s. Make sure you are at least using 5Ghz and not 2.4
