Hello
Id like to know what is the safest way to play backup without getting banned
And even if its the safest, i guess there are chance to get banned as well if we dont take precaution, right?
I dont solder though, so no "tiny soldering" please

I heard that a major hardware exploit got fixed on recent switch
But mine was bought in may 2017, so i guess i have access to this one
However, my switch is fully updated afaik

So yea, what is the safest way to play backup and what precaution should i take? Like turning off wifi or such...
Thanks
Make a NAND backup before running any CFW, and restore it any time you want to go online. emuNAND accomplishes the same thing as long as you keep all your CFW activities on emuNAND only.

It's kind of annoying how unhelpful people are. Yes of course you can't guarantee that you don't get banned. But that doesn't mean there aren't somewhat safe ways to do it. Staying offline while in cfw and playing backups IS SAFER than being online. Using xci instead of nsp IS SAFER. It's not a guarantee but it's still something. Instead of always answering with the stock answer "only safe way is to buy another switch" which is unhelpful, I wish people would at least give advice for those that are willing to risk the chance. You don't even know the chance, many people are still doing fine unbanned, even while others are banned. Of course there is no way to be 100% safe, that's always true. But it's not helpful to leave it at that.

I want to add that the op specifically asked for this as well. He acknowledged the chance in his post already while asking for the safest way anyway. Answer his question at least.
The issue is - and I have already mentioned this in another thread - that we don't know what is safe. Only Nintendo knows what they can and can't detect, and it's highly unlikely they will share their knowledge about this with us.

All we have is anecdotal evidence about what we did wether we are banned or not. And these anecdotes differ so wildly, that there is no discernable pattern to recognize. So whatever we say people should do or not do, it could be entirely wrong.

I played 140 switch games, xci trimmed, and nsp installed at 70%.
I was in ofw 5.1
Sxos pro 1.2 > 2.2.1
Then I wanted to play a fortnite, restored my nand for the 6th time, I updated 6.1.0 on nintendo online, it's been a year and a half still not banned.
The proof here

Maybe you can tell me about this :
Do you think Nintendo can wait for more people to use a specific, patchable exploit
And when we are like 10 000 people using it, BOOM, ban wave...
Do you think Nintendo could do that?

Why would nintendo want to ban an original clean nand? It's undetectable point to line, you want a way on, I tell you how to do it, now do what you want
Nintendo are not magicians, don't lend them super power, you don't have a backup of nand, you're screwed

You want to be banned, play cfw online,Install nsp, plays homebrew, update game
You want to be superbanned? Play a game before it is released
If not? Offline, dns block, or stealth, airplane, play anything you want nsp, xci
Online? Already said

Your best bet?

Buy a second Switch.

Do a System transfer of all your stuff to the new switch.

Wipe your old one.

Hack it.

Use 9DNS and don't play online.

That's what I did :)

Clearly emunand would be the safest way to not get banned. (Aside from nand restore) I'm not sure if the current emunand methods are safe though. As I'm aware sx emunand adds files to the nand which is detectable if Nintendo chooses to do so.

Edit: Wow I guess earlier today sx solved the nand issue. I can't back it but to me it seems like that might be one of the safest way to play backups now.

I'm just relaunching this discussion by being more specific

If I go online, but never use warez online, never cheat online
never hack online, never do anything unusual online
Is just having a CFW can get myself banned?

okok
and if you use mod online, i bet youll get banned as well, right?
Also, if I have pirated games installed on my switch
and I use a legit one online, can they still detect it?

I'm only replacing romFS loose files such as ingame music so no i don't think i'll get banned for this (but you never know...).
Don't go online if you have non legit NSP installed, even to play a legit game.

I'm still using legit backups that I dumped myself from my own games (not what you guys referr to as "backups") with SX OS, even while playing online, since day one.
No issues so far, whatsoever.
No ban, no nothing.

imho, if you're not doing any shady stuff, nor install anything on your switch nand itself, you are probably fine.

BTW, If I ever get banned, is there an alternative to online play?
As in private server? or unbanning my console later?
(I heard we could do it with 3ds, so maybe it will be possible on switch too, right?)

The stickied thread https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-switch-banning-hub-warning.508710/unread has a lot of good info in it as well.

I personally have a backup before any hacks, and just don't go online. I have my account already attached to it, and it's a rather old "mynintendo" account so I'd rather not have it banned. That and I've already bought stuff on this account, would rather not lose that either.

If you want absolute certainty, don't go online. Just keep a backup for when something better comes along or don't want to bother anymore. When going online, it depends on what you do as for how likely it'll be you get banned. There will be "insta-ban" stuff, like cheating in splatoon 2, and there are things that could take a couple months. But so far there isn't a guaranteed "you can do this and not get banned" way to go online.

Not to hijack this thread but I have a similar question to some of the ones asked here...

Had my switch at 4.1.0 on airplane mode for at least a year lol. Got cfw and updated to 6.2.0 with Choi, used kosmos I believe and didn’t realize 6.2 didn’t work with atmosphere at the time and switch would not boot (autoRCM) disabled that and ofw booted which I assume burnt my fuses to 6.2.0. Being that I still have a 4.1.0 backup (clean) that I HOPE works.... could I restore and then boot with hekate and update to 6.2.0 official? Or will this switch be forever “dirty” ? Just a question really as I’m considering getting a second switch for legitimate play but also curious if this one can still be clean then I might just restore it and be done with this.

Edit: not sure if boot(s) are backed up. I believe I did but I'm not sure. I followed a guide on Kosmos
Edit 2: So I get the impression that if I restore nand (4.1.0) I need to boot with Hekate and then update to 6.2.0 OFW and then I *SHOULD* be clean? Again airplane mode has been on the entire time.

Thank you,

Is there a way to play back up without installing them on the console?
As in roms instead of "Cia-like" backup
Because, if installing backup may risk of getting detected if going online...
Even if I don't use that specific backup...
I guess not installing and only reading them would be safer, right?
