In regards to Retroarchs Libretro PicoDrive (and bubble2k’s Picodrive);

For anyone who has tried (both) versions, what are your experiences (with each)?

Does anyone prefer libretro? Any performance differences worth mentioning?
Libretro has a bit more polish, accuracy and compatibility (slightly), but Bubble's is more optimized and has a (currently) nicer looking GUI. Performance is the same between both on N3DS, but Picodrive tends to drop frames in many games on O3DS and many graphically intensive games suffer slowdown on O3DS. 32x games are also smoother on N3DS in Bubble's emulator.

If you are going to emulate Genesis on the N3DS I wouldn't recommend Picodrive. I'd recommend Genesis Plus GX unleass the game lags. As for O3DS, go for Bubble's emulator.

i cant seem for the life of me run Final Burn CPS2 nor Neo Geo, every time i run my roms (mvc and Kof98) they always crash with a prefetch abort, im currently using a N2dsXL with the latest firmware
I tried a lot of roms, and I think you need to download a bootleg for the rom, put them together and boot from the bootleg. My svc, kof98~02, mslug3~5 are all like this.

Has anyone gotten Fuse to work? I've been trying the various nightlies and stable builds since it was included, but have not been successful. It doesn't require a bios according to its info file, so I don't know what I might be missing.

Can anyone load games from playlists in NeoPop in latest nightlies?
They fail both from SNK - Neo Geo Pocket Color.lpl and also content_history.lpl :-( Loading content manually works fine.

I've installed Retroarch 1.7.3, cia version, and it doesn't load the cheevos.
So I've tried to download database update from "online updater" and debug screen says "[INFO] Could not create new HTTP session handle."

Someone knows what is this error?

So I've got the NeoGeo stuff set up but I can't figure out how to get the games to run at/near 60fps. I'm running this on a N3DS and so far I've only managed to achieve around 40fps, whereas I've seen several other people run the same games at 60fps.

There are a several ways to run Neo Geo; FBA, Mame 2000, Mame 2003 and the stand alone FBA Neo Geo core. Not all games will necessarily run properly on all emulators if they're from the 'incorrect' romset and / or usung the wrong bios. Mame 2000 probably runs the fastest as a general rule of thumb so I'd try use ROMs and bios from that set. I've only really seen poor Neo Geo speed on an O3DS before so I'm not sure what else to suggest other than maybe rolling back to an earlier Retroarch build (I use 1.3.2/3).

Its a 240p screen, where would there even be room to insert scanlines?

Shaders don't seem to be implemented at all on the 3DS. You just have whatever basic software options in the display menu, and they seem really slow.

I'm not sure the 3DS port interacts with the GPU for 3D acceleration at all.

I've uploaded an old build of Retroarch (1.3.6) to GBAtemp's file hosting for anyone who's looking for something earlier than what's available on the buildbot, but can't post the link due to low post count. Search for "Retroarch 3DS 2016-11-20" to download. I'd appreciate it if a mod could edit the link in after verifying the file.

That's just a generic error message that doesn't really mean anything. Do you have the bios in the right spot and have you tested the rom on another retroarch device?

Hey everyone. I'm quite new still into 3DS emulators and hacking overall. I was wondering if for the Mame 2003 emulator needs some sort of bios files or I can just throw at it games straight out

I just got a n3dsxl. I was expecting better performance from retroarch. 1.7.3. With Genesis Plus GX, battlemania 2 at like 40fps , streets of rage with frame drops once in a while, and bari-arm chd at ~50fps. With pcsx I got ~35-45fps in megaman x4. ~35fps in valis 4 in mednafen pce. I haven't tried fba/mame. I'm running CIA's from sysnand 11.8.

Overall, I can't believe anyone's recommending retroarch over bubble's ports for n3ds.

Update:
fba-cps1 = crashes
fba-cps2 = sfa ran fullspeed
fba-neogeo = magician lord ran fullspeed but metal slug 5 crashes
fba-standalone= dnd tod cps1 fullspeed. sfa fullspeed, magician lord fullspeed, ms3,ms5 crashes.
wtf 1.3.6:
fba-neogeo= ms5 fullspeed
fba-standalone=ms5 audio problems.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Mostly for big purchases, I want it in my hands before I pay. Like a tv, I trust picking it up myself, before I'd trust it being sent thru mail/delivery. (Broken screen, etc) But yea if I can order online, then pickup at store is ok, but not all places offer that.

Thing is, if you break it driving back to your house, it's your fault. But if the delivery driver damages it, it's not your fault.

Most people that haul big tvs have empty trucks or know enough not to set it face down
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Then I gotta send it back and wait another week or two. I have a pickup truck, with a extended cab, so no prob for me.
