Hey guys, Old user of GBATemp over here! Been missing a lot of time tho.

So, I've read up on the new hacks for 3DS and since I got a switch, I thought, why not CFW my 3ds and enjoy the last games it still has to give?

So, I have a first gen M3i Zero, which is not supported by the NTRboot (but it does work fine in my DSi and Phat DS) so I cannot use it for this exploit.

So I'm looking for a flashcart that can both NTRBoot and play DS games on the 3DS (on the cheap side)

My findings so far:

Ace3ds Plus :
+ Seems able to NTRBoot (only found one post here on how to do it tho)
+ No time bomb
- Seems there are a lot of this cards and according to my research, some are not able to NTRBoot
+ Cheap ( 8 Euro~)
- Slow shipping (2 weeks?)
R4i 3DS RTS (R4i-sdhc.com)
+ Seems to work flawlessly with NTRBoot
- Time bomb
+ A little more expensive (I could get it for 9.5 Eur in my country, but shipping somewhat pushes it to 13.50, still a good deal I believe)
+ 1-2 Day shipping (Ships in my country)

I'd like to know if there are any other cards I should take into mind, I'm very inclined to the R4i 3DS RTS but the time bomb... not sure if it's that bad or not, as I don't want to keep changing dates.

I could use YSMenu, what are the major compability issues with YS? If it's just basically Pokemon B2/W2, I own both, so that is not a problem I think. I could still use the normal kernel until the time bomb too!

Please some help :b

I would not suggest the Ace3DS because it's running a hacked/outdated version of Wood R4. This basically is why the cart is so cheap, the kernel is out of date and there's no real method of properly updating it.
The R4i-SDHC is a decent cart, works with NTRBoot, and the timebomb can be bypassed with YSMenu. There was some issues with some games (like Pokemon W/B/2 and Golden Sun.) These issues however aren't the fault of YSMenu and were an issue with the most recent hardware of the R4i-SDHC (and it's clones) they are actually fixed and will be included in the next release of Retro's files.
Personally though I really just suggest spending a little more on the R4i-Gold Plus. You not only gain official Wood R4 support, but also a builtin switch to switch between NTRBoot and NDS Mode. If you aren't up for spending the extra money, then go for R4i-SDHC. Having YSMenu with community support through Retro's files is just a better option than using an outdated version of Wood R4.

Supercard!
Considering the fact that the Supercard DSTWO is no longer in production, it's become a rather expensive and hard to find cart. This is why most people have stopped suggesting it because it's really debatable if it's worth spending over 50$ on an NDS cart in this day and age. Personally I would only suggest it to hardcore collectors with deep pockets.

How's all that ntrboot, twloader, dsimenu++ stuff coming along? Been over a year since I last tried a few games, had somewhat bad results, and gave up. I have not been following that closely because I have a few dstwo cards, but it is possible they could break someday.....

HOLY MOLY! A little gay catboy? Is that you?
I did a video review of the m3 quadboot once!

Anyways does the DSTwo support NTRBoot now? I have a friend who owns one that I could borrow. The main purpose is to ntrboot my 3ds. Playing DS Games comes as a second (not many titles left to play personally)

That's a name I haven't heard in many moons. A lot has changed since those old days, especially for me. I do remember that review, I actually ended up watching it other day when it randomly recommended to me.
The DSTWO does not support NTRBoot and honestly I don't really foresee supporting NTRBoot anytime soon. The cart's booting method is a bit of an enigma. If the main purpose is installing NTRBoot and NDS second, then I still suggest either R4i-Gold Plus or the R4i-SDHC.

No wonder! It was such a long time ago! Just noticed from your image and a lot came through my head! I will check and maybe try to get the R4i-SDHC and put YS by Retro on it. If those games are even getting fixed, and I can get it cheaper and faster and if it serves NTRBoot well then I do not see a reason not to.

Time really changes people. Although I am no longer a catboy, I am still short and a lesbian, so that much is true :P I digress though.
The issues with some games was actually related to the hardware for more recent R4i-SDHC (and clones.) It seems they did some small changes to their hardware that causes issues with AP-fixes. Retro was able to work out the bugs and he was able to fix them. I can also confirm from testing these files for him that the games were fixed and should work in the most recent cart. Of course I would like to add to properly confirm them that I actually order an entire new set of every single R4i-SDHC and clone on nds-card just so I can test to confirm that they are working....also because I wanted to waste money because I can.

Ahah living the good life I see! Welp, I really just wanted the cheapest r4i card that I could get to ntrboot my 3ds. That's about it. Which single one I find turns out to be expensive or take a long time to arrive sadly.

I bought my r4i gold 3ds rts(r4ids.cn) on ebay for 10 euros(im living in germany) and this card works like a charm. No timebomb, backup.bin easy to find) and runs ds games just fine.

I don't get why having an outdated wood R4 is so bad. I have both an Ace3DS and an r4i gold RTS and they both work exactly the same...

I would recommend the R4i Gold 3DS Plus. Got mine from the link below mainly for the nds function, apps like TWLoader serve a purpose but its more convenient with the cart. I have used it to mod quite a few other 3ds's for friends and relatives and it's flawless.

https://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=575

R4i GOLD 3DS PLUS card for Nintendo New 3DS /3DS (LL,XL) ver 11.7.0-40 and v11.6.0-39 /2DS/DSi/DS Lite to play NDS games not 3ds games

R4I GOLD 3DS PLUS is same as R4I GOLD 3DS RTS card, You can think they are the same card, they have the same functions. The only difference is that there's a NTRboot loader switch, you can learn how to do it from the official website.

http://www.r4ids.cn/r4ids-e.htm

R4I GOLD 3DS PLUS is compatible for ntrboothax

what is included?

1. R4I GOLD 3DS PLUS card

2. Micro sd card reader

3. a small magnet

R4i Gold Plus is also pre-flashed with ntrboot loader and there is no need for users to find a hacked 3ds to flash it again. Besides, there is a swith with this card, which can help users choose between ds games mode and ntrboot mode. If you push the switch to ds games mode, it can support ds games. If you push the switch to ntrboot mode, you can install 3ds custom firm with it.

The issue is that it lacks features like RTS that the R4i Gold has and according to some research (I could be wrong, but I tried to google this,) it does have issues with later games like Pokemon Black2/White2. They function mostly the same, but the Ace3DS is basically running a franken-kernel with an outdated kernel and mostly updated loaders.
