Hello there!

I ve managed to get a 4tb external hdd with an external power adapter!

Here are some questions:
◇Does App2Usb enable that we can play games directly from the external usb hdd?

◇Does App2Usb delete the games from the internal hdd after they got copied to the external?
if not.. how do i uninstall the game from the internal hdd?

◇What is the maximum size of the supported external hdd?

◇Can i use PKG2Usb too if i use app2usb?

I hope there s someone that can answer me these questions!
And please have mercy if i asked some weird and useless questions... i ve not been long in the PS4scene yet

1, yes
2, yes, uninstall as normal, its symlinked.
3, 8tb
4, y tho? apptousb is far better.

run hen first then apptousb for max speeds.
Man thank you for clearing things up! so i can just uninstall it and than i get the external game?
how do i know that i dont uninstall the external game?^^ i dont get this tbh.
pkg2usb manages that i can select one game that i want to be moved ^^ thats the one thing i was thinkin about using it over app2usb xD ...

so in order to play usbgames do i first start the payload HEN and than app2usb?
or am i wrong?
can i skipp the app2usb payload ?

don’t uninstall from the home screen.
that will remove the reference to the game from the app.db
just install the fpkg via debug settings, then run app2usb.
app2usb will check if the package already exists on the ext hdd under ps4/cusaxxxxx and move it from internal to external if it doesn’t.
if it already exists (by you manually putting it there) it will skip the move and save you a lot of time.
finally, it will create the symlink on the internal to the file now on external.

start the games simply by running hen. no need to run app2usb unless you want to do more internal to ext transfers

this thread is really informative. only thing I am still a little unclear about:

Say I am using the same drive for installing pkg's as well as storing them externally using apps2usb.

I place the fake pkg's I want to install in the root of my external hard drive and install like normal using the debug menu. Then... I run apps2usb and it will transfer the installed games from internal to external (into the ps4 folder in the external). Do the PKG files I used to install just remain in the root of the external - waiting to be deleted? (I can delete these to save space afterwards right?)

once app2usb has completed, you can delete the pkg files from ext root.
if you want to be careful, check the package exists in ps4/cusaxxxxx first. if it does, you’re fine to delete them from root

so I have an issue (i think...)

I uncommented the //check_usb line in the ini file in the root of my external. When I run the apps2usb payload, it moves all my games from the internal hard drive to my external successfully - but it doesn't seem to move any pkg files in my external root into the ps4 folder. From what I understand - isn't it supposed to move all the pkg's from external root into the corresponding ps4 folder?

The PKGs that are on your root of the external hdd are the files you used to initially install packages via the debug menu settings. Once you have installed those .pkg, you don't need them any more. But I don't think APP2USB removes them for you.

Apptousb does not remove the installation pkg after installation.

Nope.

However if you install pkg to internal, rename the pkg to app.pkg, and put in corresponding ps4/cusaxxxxx folders on external, it speeds up copy time for apptousb when its run (it doesnt need to copy pkg from internal to external, just link to external thats already there)

Tried this and doesn't work for me the only way it does is if i have the pkg on the root of the external and leave
//CHECK_USB in the ini as it is which is a pain cause i have to wait for it to copy all over again

Hmm... if app.pkg is on root it can’t be moved to folder, so it’s copying from interns to external...

It’s should just symlink the internal install to the external file, you putting it there manually in PS4/cusa<whatever>/ should skip copying as it’s there already.....

Strange.
As far as I see it, there is never a reason to not have CHECK_USB uncommented.
Try it with a small game like Terraria.
- Leave the ini as default apart from uncommenting CHECK_USB.
- Put the Terraria pkg on ext root.
- Install it via Debug settings.
- FTP in or whatever to your external drive.
- Move the Terraria package from root to ps4/CUSA00740 and rename it to app.pkg (may not be essential but I do it anyway) - create that folder if need be.
- Run app2usb. Should see Found ... Creating link, Skipping or something along those lines.
- App2USB will finally say Complete.
Check you can run the game with USB plugged in.
Disconnect USB and check to see if it fails.
Then you're set up.

Tried the same with angry birds star wars cause it was a small file but still had no luck

was looking around to figure this out. i have a few questions:
1) i just started moving all my backups to usb. but i dont think ill be able to tell which game is which on windows. Is there a win tool that could list the titles/games?
2) Do the updates transfer to External HDD?
3) Is there a way to skip installation on console. Can we just copying the game on hard drive?
