The genre discussion is a fun one but "on rails"/"rails shooter" is the term most would use, everything else is just further descriptors. I don't know of any developers or sub styles that (compare say bullet hell in shmups or roguelike within dungeon crawlers) would really be said to exemplify that.
Alternatively a lot of earlier 3d functioned fairly similar so I could see comparing something like space harrier
to something like skitchin
or indeed street surfer
and road rash
before coming back to more recent times with something like lococycle
My personal term for that sort of thing is "race to the horizon" but that is just the one I use.
