Nintendo takes User Reviews feature off its website

404.png

As noted
, as of recently, users could leave reviews for Switch games on Nintendo of America's website. This feature has now been taken down, lasting just a couple of days. It's not certain whether user reviews will return, as Nintendo doesn't currently have an estimated date on an update.

Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality. We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided. We appreciate the positive response and thank the reviewers who provided such thoughtful commentary on the games.

I'm fine with this, I don't know of anyone that goes to a game they play just to like and leave a review. Maybe if it reached out to you in game like hey we noticed you enjoy pokemon omega ruby would you wanna give us details on what you'd like improved and your age.

Probably a language and content issue I'd guess. As for afraid of being roasted... not likely, as they'd never have tried this venture in the first place. Besides, Nintendo is used to living in a world where people make fun of them.... while imitating them. ;)

The big publishers have been trying to silence all negative reviews for years, even a certain independent developer has sued over it. The terrible thing is that they actually got pretty far.

Reminds me of when the WWE first opened their own forum back in like 2007 or 2008. They um, didn't realize how hated they were online, and also, decided to open it on a Friday evening, ya know, right when everyone goes home for the weekend. They also had no idea what a moderator was, and didn't think they needed any. You can imagine how that forum turned out. One of the first threads was a 10 page thread about Chris Benoit looking for his son.

The forum was closed down after 2 days.

But what if, for example, i legitimately dislike a game? Have played breath of the wild and the game does not appeal to me, i highly think it is a 2/5 for me.

btw, inb4 triggered people.
what if you own zelda breath of the wild and find its actually worthy of 4/10..

hey you never know this could be why, i mean theyve been advertising perfect scores on games, yet its review system from its gamers/customers are rating it far less..... shock horror those paid off perfect scores make us look bad because our actual customers/gamers find our perfect 10/10 games to be medicore 5+/10.

Well if they don't want to moderate, then this is an issue. They don't want to have to pay workers for sitting at a screen and deleting comments, they want them working on future titles. That's just my idea of it anyway. Also why did they feel it was necessary for that in the first place?

I don't think moderating a family friendly review system requires the same skill set as developing future titles. You probably wouldn't repurpose a developer as a moderator, either - you would hire people to moderate.

The shutdown is probably a mix of unwillingness to moderate, being unable to accept of criticism and, let's face it, Nintendo are extremely old school in nature. They took a peek out the door to the modern internet then locked it and ran.

So basically, Nintendo confirmed for not being able to tolerate criticism, or accept any attempt at constructive feedback.

Why, oh why, am i not surprised?
Or ya know. Trolls, review bombing, idiotic people etc.
I guess the idea could work out if all messages went to Nintendo and Nintendo only, not ruining the game's reputation.

Are you even aware that to review a game on nintendo site you had to own a switch, the game, then played the game for more than two hours and have a proper nintendo account linked to your switch? Unless you are stating that people would actually waste more than 300 bucks to just troll on some reviews... yeah, sure...

Lol they weren't butthurt because games were getting bad reviews, because the games weren't. They were full of one-star trolls post that didn't have a valid opinion.

edit: guess they had that, good for them.

Second guess: Language? Were people cursing or only just throwing one word reviews out?
Do we have any screenshots?

Maybe they will just stick with those YouTuber "who get a so-called free copy of a game" to give a glowing review! ...even though the game is crap.
honestly I don't think bribery is as big an issue for youtube reviewers as it used to be for magazines/websites, people watching a youtube review can generally see the gameplay and get a better idea if they would like it, granted there is selective editing/avoiding negative aspects, but generally if the gameplay sucks I will know I wouldn't like it even if the reviewer is screeching about how good this is (and lets be honest if they do that kind of stuff too often people would just avoid any recommendations from them in future), no review medium will ever be perfect but video reviews imho are worth more than aggregate scores site, sites that are practically married to big publishers or random reviews from unknown people trying to describe a game in under 5 words

First off, nice accusation about Nintendo paying for good scores. Any evidence to back this up? Now you're going to say "but the user score is so much lower!". The user score is an 8.5. Now look at all the 0s it has. From people referring to the main character as zelda, complaining you can't customize his outfit, saying there's 0 new characters, the game is locked to 20 fps, or other blatently false statements that clearly show they never actually played the game. Factor all those out and it's probably like a 9 now. Not take into account the critic score are from people who's JOB IT IS to give it a score that's fairly representative of what most people will think of the game as. It makes sense almost every critic would give it a 10 when the overwhelming amount of users also gave it a 10. There's no conspiracy about Nintendo paying critics. The only oddity is all the 0-1 scores from people who clearly never played the game saying things you would know are false in the first 10 minutes.

blah blah, lets not start the fanboy crap again.

point was rather simple, but we all know the faboys hate negative comments, would show nintendo do to.

as a fan of zelda and have played the game, it falls very far from a 10/10.

and i guess to the fans its not possible to buy a perfect 10/10..... if you do this, we will do this in return, you can sway ones opinion or simply hand pick those you send it to.

i mean looking at nintendo fanboys that love anything regardless, erm send these zelda/nintendo fans the full game to review and theyll be exploding in their undies and will blindy give it a perfect score.

when its bragging a perfect 10 and you play it and your expecting something great and its this..... meh bore.

so yea to the point, i mentioned it before it even happened so its pretty amusing, im guessint the nintendo fans will insist all reasons to this is because people who hate nintendo have very little to do and took to the site to troll it, rather than most being legit people leaving just deserved reviews.

like nintnedo fans and nintendo, cant accept negative comments. so they removed it.... shame this wasnt the lotto numbers because id be rich pmsl

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
