Hi Guys, I've used HBAS to load Retroarch 1.5.0 onto my WiiU. I can't seem to load Retroarch from HBC but I can open and run individual cores which work fine. I'm keen to get stuck into using playlists / collections to make navigating my content easier, but I'm not really sure where to start. I have tried scanning content, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you

May I ask why you're using an outdated version?

Edit: Also, my reporting of the broken main RetroArch RPX to GitHub was, as per usual, not useful. Oh well. I'd ask fix94, but he is quite busy and asking him to look into would likely only add to his stress.

So right now what is the problem with the cores?
They boot but they won't load any games or what is exactly the problem?

Try to narrow down the problems, a simple "doesn't work" will not help.
Explain in detail what happened.

I also suggest to make a clean install of everything RetroArch.
Delete the /retroarch/ folder if you already had one, and download everything again from the buildbot nightly page.

Also, try to specify if you guys are using the standalone retroarch.rpx with playlists, and/or if you are using per-core rpx apps.
It would be interesting to see if the problems which occur with the retroarch.rpx and playlists can be replicated by launching per-core RPX apps.

Let's say you are testing GenPlus:
  • Try testing it inside the main RetroArch app (retroarch.rpx)
  • Try testing the individual core RPX app (genesis-plus-gx.rpx)
See if the problem is replicated with both versions or if it's specific to one in particular.

Remember to also do the tests in Haxchi HBL and/or channel HBL.
This is also important.

I ran tests prior to the latest nightly build:

The main RetroArch app (retroarch.rpx, version 1.6.7 vanilla) would simply yield in a blank screen, forcing the user to hard reboot the console. Tested it on Haxchi+ CFW HBL as
it was reportedly more prone to crashing, this was done to repeatedly reproduce the crash to see what factors triggered said crash. I haven't tested 1.6.7 on the Retro Launcher as of yet, but I will today.

- Haven't made a new RetroArch folder from scratch, no, but that would certainly be something I can do, but I will keep a backup of the assets folder as for some reason, the config file has that set to a folder
that isn't retroarch/assets (for the life of me I can't figure out why it has a different configured folder for assets, I find it unnecessary).
- Loading another core like Snes9x, then configuring the core path does seem to be efficacious as a workaround, as swapping cores, etc works as it should, it's just the main RPX seems broken at the moment.
- Doesn't hurt to start from square one, no, so I'll re-set up my folders, and so on on my SD card.

@Radius4 Ok but when I built wiiu retroarch , i never see any occurrence of " -DHAVE_KEYMAPPER" in the gcc args.
even if i put a #warning under a #ifdef HAVE_KEYMAPPER block it never showup.

anyways in https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/blob/master/Makefile.common#L1485

ifeq ($(HAVE_KEYMAPPER), 1)
OBJ += input/input_mapper.o
endif

it never define DEFINES += -DHAVE_KEYMAPPER like other option.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think -DHAVE_KEYMAPPER is defined for wiiU.

maybe someone could try to add something like:

CFLAGS += -DHAVE_MAIN -DHAVE_KEYMAPPER

at https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/blob/master/Makefile.wiiu#L152

and build dosbox core to see if keymapper option show up as it should , i can't access wiiU for now to test .

@LibretroRetroArc I will try to help if can (but @QuarkTheAwesome has far more knowledge of the wiiu system than me)
i will try when i have some time to look at deeper in the wiiU retroarch side. but debugging on this system is very time consuming.
it's not as easy than the PC or Android side (like Radius4 said before) and i'm always on 5.5.1 with browserhax (so not a big deal to debug)
You should consider buying a game for Haxchi or CBHC to directly boot into whatever you need (RetroArch, HBL, ftpiiu).
I'm willing to send you the bucks needed for a Haxchi game via Paypal if you want cause every single guy willing to work a little bit on Wii U's RetroArch is a win for us all.

Seconded, the need for Wii U helping hands is great. Heck, even I can pitch in a few bucks to send his way if I need to.

Thanks guys, I think my mistake was to use the HB App Store rather than just install Retroarch directly. I will clean up my SD card tonight and try a fresh install with the latest build. Do I want the rpx version or the other?

About that, there aren't any cores in the latest nightly, just the latest main retroarch app, just a heads up. Maybe we need to use the cores from a previous build?

Edit: Let me try again

Edit 2: And the latest nightly is only 140 KB, what?

@ShadowOne333

Why's the latest nightly so small? No RPX files seem to be included other than the main RPX, but the other cores and apps, nonexistent. No way we can test the latest build.

Wait a bit.
The upcoming build should correct that.

Hey guys! I'm new around here, and I couldn't find anything about it in recent discussions since they were mostly development updates. Are cores like PSX, PSP and DS anywhere close to reality right now on the Wii U? Wanted to know how are the current state of things when it comes to these consoles. Thanks!

I'm getting the same results as randomizer the nightly build from 27/09 will cause the console to lock up when trying to load the main retroarch.rpx, individual cores have been fine so far, this was on a fresh install. Shame, as I wanted to get stuck into playlists and assets tonight!

Wait for the build bot to fix up the 9/28 builds, they seem to have been corrupted and only included the main app, and none of the RPX cores.

Thanks but I can't really sink in even more time than I do already in this hobby.
Also like I said before, I'm lazy :P

But wouldn't it help get issues resolved faster? Like the fact the build bot messing up the 9/28 nightly? 'Cause the size is only 140 KB and not 40 MB, that's kind of a problem.

I want to test the latest build, but the RA main app crashes.
