Thanks for all the replies. I just find it funny how the old card makers can't compete with a newcomer.

Will there be any updated hardware coming from the R4 team?

Basically, there were 2 winners in Slot-2 era. M3 and Supercard were the leaders before the Slot-1 solutions came out. M3 was smart to make an R4 clone. Supercard on the other hand doesn't really have an advantage anymore[besides the cost factor I guess. but it used to be even more expensive than R4 at some point]

Ever since I got my flash cart, I've felt dumb that I ordered an M3 over an R4.

Even though they're the same thing, I don't mind about the updates either. But there's something about it.

One of the main reasons I like the R4 over all my other cards is its menu OS speed. You turn on your DS & the R4 comes up quick, no pausing, splash screen, warning screen, plus it has a fast in-game reset. And it shows 15 games on screen at once unlike some other cards that only show 3 or 4 at a time making you have to hunt. Bottom line I bought my DS to play games not wait for menus or hunt for games, & the faster I can do that the better the card. Not to mention all the reasons already stated above.

R4 was my first Slot-1 device for the DS. As a newcomer I was scared from the get go, but the R4 is so simple. It's just a drag-and-drop feature that really got me.

I would have to say good reviews, good overall end-user satisfaction (plus word of mouth is powerful), and good support. The price isn't too shabby either. Dealextreme has got to be a catalyst here, as well.

Like the DS itself or the iPod, the hardware is elegant enough and is heavily supported with lots of software. The key is software, software, software!

Personally, they did many things that caught my attention. They didn't have that issue of having an Actel chip sticking out of the card. They have a generic raw save file instead creating a mess of support files necessary to identify the proper save size and type. In other words, they made it easy and nearly seamless by creating top-notch software. Thanks to Chishm, DLDI gives R4 another dimension of usefulness. I've actually been using homebrew more than backups of my purchased games. I also like the fact that they communicate with end-users.

I didn't like the fact that they tried to make a viral marketing post on GBAtemp, but I cautiously forgive them!

I hope they don't grow a big enough tail for Nintendo to grab on to.

Beste Slot1: R4DS
Best Slot2: G6lite

Both have next to perfect support for all NDS games; with G6lite perfect support for GBA games and both together run NDS browser if you get a kick out of that.
They're both updated regularly.

R4DS only: it's cheap and works with exchangable micro-SD. Only minor: dodgy spring system - you may have to exchange for a new one with your supplier.

The only fault I see with the R4 is the spring problem. Other than that it has great compatibility and receives regular updates from the R4 team.

I personally believe if the R4DS team totally removed the spring system or offered the cart in several configurations... side loading, side loading spring loaded, top loading, top loading spring loaded, in every default DS color as well as a clear plastic style it would be the perfect solution. They could tack on $3 to the base price to cover those options for all I care. But I'm nit picking. I removed my spring even though it was good because I just didn't like it, plus I didn't want it to go bad later and risk damaging a microSD from the pressure let off when the spring snaps.

This would surely create problems in production. It's cheaper and more efficient to stick to a single design, so they probably will.

EDIT: Not saying it's a bad idea, it isn't, but it's highly unlikely

I don't think it's just because they were there when no one else was, I can truly say this the best buy I've ever made. The functionality it added to my DS is phenomonal. That and their continuing support... wow. Props to the guy who did Moonshell, as well.
