the dude simply wants to boot his a9hl 3ds without an SD card inserted because he thinks he did something wrong ...Pretty sure he can simply inject FBI now because he restored his sysnand backup and his 3ds is working fine.

On the OP, He only wanted to solve the FBI injection and the black screen, NOT booting without SD.
That subject came after.

There's no need to go back to stock again if we can help him solve the problems and that is what I tried to do with what I said.

Also there's no need to keep busting his head that the A9LH doesn't boot without SD, I think He already knows that.

Used: Nintendo 3DS XL (old) with firmware between 4.0.0 - 4.5.0 | using the Decrypt9 (Browser) method/entry-point

I was following Plailect's guide and everything was going well until on "Part 3 Section V - Injecting FBI". I was on Step 8 and accidentally "Health&Safety Inject" the hs.app INSTEAD of the FBI_inject_with_banner.app. So I pressed (B) and re-did it again with the correct one (the FBI_inject_with_banner.app). It succeeded then I went to the main menu (of Hourglass9), then pressed Start to reboot but ended up with a black screen. Nothing shows up just a back-lit screen. I made sure to follow the guide carefully besides this 1 mistake. What firmware version are you currently on now?

This is what I've done afterwards and probably shouldn't have done but I did end up with the same result anyway:
I restored the sysNAND (through Hourglass9) and was able to boot back the the 3DS's home screen, back to my original firmware before attempting any of this but the console still won't boot without the SD card (Luma3DS and Hourglass9 still work when powering on holding Select or Start). I've tried re-doing some of the sections in the guide in hopes I can get it working but the same thing happened. it should be the same result, you already have A9LH + Luma 3DS, just try injecting FBI again

Here are some things I've tried:
- Removing the SD card from my 3DS won't power on the console (blue light flashes then quickly fades) Normal on A9LH
- Tried the test payload from the troubleshooting page and was able to power off the console by pressing (A), meaning my console isn't bricked according to the troubleshooting page. Correct

So is there any way to get it working again or restore to true factory settings (removing Luma3DS, Hourglass9 and be able to power on without SD card) without updating the console? I also want to note that I was able to boot into version 2.1.0 at one point earlier in the guide so I'm thinking "Part 3 Section V - Injecting FBI" is where thinks went wrong. Why do you want to Uninstall A9LH? its already there and it will even help you in the long run. As per my advice if you restore back your Sysnand according to Section IV just do Section V back. You will get FBI eventually dont just give up

sorry if this is not the right place to post this, it seems like the right place :/

Read his other replies he seemed to be confused still.

Wrong FBI injection to the Health & Safety would not have have caused a black screen on boot and Shadownand should not be mentioned ideally, since it will confuse some even more.

Restoring a backup and deleting luma's config and creating a new one with a fresh copy of arm9loaderhax.bin on the root should sort whatever caused it.

OP
Okay, I'm an idiot. I skipped an entire section (Section IV - Restoring the System) because I thought it was ONLY for people who want to move the contents of their previous EmuNAND or RedNAND to their new SysNAND CFW. Skipping this entire section made me think I had to be in version 2.1.0 to inject FBI (Section V - Injecting FBI). I was wondering why I couldn't boot (but I don't know how I booted to version 2.10 at one point). There is a few last steps I skipped because I got stuck and I think it doesn't matter but on "Section VI - Finalizing setup" Step 13, I can't select the hs.app as it says "No usable file found". I checked if the hs.app file is in the 'files9' folder and it is. I don't know the purpose of this step because the Health and Safety application seems to be back to normal and launches fine?

A HUGE thank you to everyone who took their time to help me out! The amount of people willing to help me is overwhelming. This is one of the reasons why I love the GBAtemp community. Yes, I didn't read through the guide clearly enough. That's the last time I'm ever starting a tutorial/guide in the middle of the night lol. Thanks again!

We all make mistakes, especially with lack of sleep, as I recently bricked one of my Dreamcast's by flashing a 128k flashrom instead of the actual region free retail bios file.
