At this point I would never recommend buying a new gateway over the free alternatives (If you can use gateway, you have access to free community tools that, frankly, are superior and can do almost everything GW can do, in most cases do it better). But if you already have one I don't see any problem continuing to use it. But I would still advise against using GW-A9LH and would instead opt for the community A9LH, which can boot a standard CFW as well as GW.

No, it's buggy as fuck as everyone knows, and it potentially locks into a card that may or may not last.
Having said that, after finally installing a9lh and finding it nicer than I expected, I won't stop using GW and would recommend it to someone who just wants something to plug and play and still have access to easy to use roms when the eshop goes away.

Well...I downgraded 2 2DS's and 2N3DS XL's to 2.1 via Timemachine. So yes, I'd recommend it. But I would not recommend installing GW's Version of a9lh.

After downgrading to 2.1 I used the "normal way" aka plailects guide.

But that was before the new ctr method came out.

Nope, current methods are way tidier and less of a risk. Only good part about Gateway is the cheats, in my opinion. Now if you'll excuse me.

*waits for the people who think Gateway is the best to come in*

No. If you don't have gateway, never get it. If you have gateway, never run their downgrader.

If you have gateway currrently, follow the guide and either downgrade to A9LH 1.0 and get their payload or follow the tutorial on how to use Luma+Gateway.

They also brick sysnand if you update it.

Well, I have the gateway A9LH installed on my 3ds, and it works fine for me. I find it much easier to just throw a 3ds rom on my gateway than having to mess around with installing CIAs, which takes up like twice the space on your SD card and you have to sit around for like 15 minutes waiting on something to install before you can run it. And opening the SD card slot on my O3DS XL is a major hassle because its very difficult to get the SD card in and out of that slot.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
