Stop getting upset because you aren't getting the answer and support you expected. You asked if you could flash a NAND backup with GW, with or without A9LH. We told you without a9lh you can't if bricked. Then all of a sudden you don't care about your own original question and just try to defend GW. Yes GW has a better cheat engine, but other than that the free software based options are far superior now. If you still choose GW for personal reasons then that's fine. But imo I wouldn't trust Brickway with my NAND.

What is wrong with Gateway(except their A9LH implementation)? I am using GW too, only for purpose of cheats, otherwise using luma.
Just go for GW, set up A9LH by plailect guide and use their arm9loaderhax.bin file to boot GW when you want and you will have benefits of both...

At this point the only upside to GW is their better cheat engine. There basically is no other benefit, so imo paying ~$75 is not worth that small benefit.

Yea, I don't get the hate either. I bought mine before any of this stuff existed with Cubic Ninja or any of it. It's been fine for me. Dead simple to use, too. Compared to it, literally everything about A9 and these other hax methods sounds complicated as hell, especially with the forced up and downgrading that are apparently necessary to even do some of them; that to me just seems like it's asking for a brick to happen.

Gateway was good at that time. And it still works okay. But if you are new to it, the cost of the card just isn't worth it anymore when you can do almost everything the card offers with free open-source software alternatives. That's where the "hate" comes from. Especially with Gateway literally stealing code from the open-source devs and slapping their name on it. If that doesn't tell you something about the current state of GW compared to the open-source developments, then I don't know what to say.

I bought GW when it had FW 1.2, so I just didn't wanted to just completely dump it or sell it. I like their cheat system. And thats about it. I'd rather have inserted my DSTWO in 3DS but it's draining battery even when I am not using it, so GW is kind of better for me. Maybe one day I'll buy the R4 with RTS but till then I stay with GW. (I dont want to have multiple cartridges with me when I go somewhere because I tend to lose them easily :( )

I also wish Team Supercard actually got official collab with Gateway, because the DStwo plus would have been my swiss army knife level go-to choice if it worked properly past GW 3.4.1.

I'd still get one, if to replace my OG DStwo that's been on its last legs... but sadly, can't use it to replace the Gateway 3DS yet.

Sad thing is, I currently have a hard time really justifying a need for above 32GB of storage for just the GW red card for .3ds files. However, if it was the DStwo plus working as advertised, and it could do DS, 3DS and their excellent homebrew, It'd make more sense to give it a 128GB microSD and have some very complete collections on there. :gba:

I never said if you already have it to just ditch it, but rather if you don't already have one at this point it really isn't worth investing $75 in due to most of it's functionality being possible to do for free with open-source software. I don't know why everyone thinks I'm just telling them to abandon the GW if they already have it.

wait i just had a thought, since a9lh in general loads before the bootrom error, if you have gateway a9lh installed, wouldn't it take you to the gw menu? from there you can just use gw's NAND restore function like normal, right? this is just a theory in any case.

I don't have experience with that but my answer would be yes. The only issue is that you would want a NAND backup with a9lh installed. But I haven't seen the gw-a9lh to know what it lets you do on boot. That's assuming gateway doesn't go full retard and either make it booth straight to GW mode or they don't include a NAND restore. Along with that they probably haven't included FIRM0FIRM1 write protection, so if you were to write a NAND backup from before a9lh was installed it would remove the gw-a9lh.
IMO if you want to do a9lh with GW, the better option would be to use the standard open-source installer. Not only is it probably safer, but if your GW card ever dies with gw-a9lh installed you can basically so goodbye to that 3ds until you buy another gateway card for $75. But that's just with what I understand about GW, I could be wrong.

gw-a9lh boots directly into emunand if one is detected, but it still allows you to access the menu like usual while holding L. your console is never technically 'married to gateway' since you can restore a nand backup at literally any time to remove it. and the same goes for when you lose the gateway cart itself. you're able to backup as well as restore NAND dumps, so it doesn't matter if you have no access to decrypt9 or anything because gateway can do all that stuff anyways. you're right about the firm0firm1 write protection, but would removing gw-a9lh even be that bad a decision? i mean, it's greatly frowned upon by the community and you're not able to use other tools with it. best to just save your console from the brick and get it over with.

Simple, don't buy gatewait products, go for A9LH which is essentially much better and free, plus GW-A9LH is just locking you down and no escape..
Couldnt you just have answered his question without giving an anti-gateway speech? The cheat engine on NTR isn't nearly as good/convenient as Gateway. You can thank 98% of the Gateshark codes on Fort42 to users with Gateway, not some free alternative.

@Dahacker2016 - Install A9LH using the original guide, and them once that's done, copy the Gateway arm9loaderhax.bin to your SD Card to autoboot without locking your system to Gateway.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
