I just got my card from newegg and even though the page I ordered from said it was made in Japan, I got a Taiwan one. Will Kingston replace it even though I already opened the package?

If you can get them to replace it, it won't matter that you opened it. It is probably better if you can tell them that you did try it, and that it sucks.

i bought from ca.Buy.com and I got a taiwanese one. The model number is still SDC/1GB tho.

The model number for both is SDC/1GB which is what my biggest beef is. If they want to have different cards, they should be different parts. The UPC codes on them are different, though. Some Japan-made cards have "SDC/1GBKR" on the back of the package, but the card still says "SDC/1GB"

I have both the japanese and taiwanese cards, and I did notice the 30 meg discrepency.

I called Kingston before, and I did get the 'can't guarantee a japan card' thing from the techie.

I called again and mentioned the 30 meg difference this time.
He gave me the formatting loses some space argument.
I just said you can't expect me to believe if the taiwanese and japanese cards were the same, both cards would give me a different amount of space.

And then he gave me a case number, and I have to talk to a lvl 2 techie tomorrow or something.

and oh. The number on my
taiwanese card(SDC/1GB) is 30785-001.A00LF

I personally think whether Kingston initiates the exchanges comes down to what technician you happen to get on the phone. If he is accommodating, he will try to get all the information from the back of the card/package, and spend some time looking for the Japanese version (at least that's what mine did). If he is a lazy dumbass, he'll just throw out some excuse so he doesn't have to expend any effort...

Just tried a RMA for two. In there, I forgot to specifically request for two Japanese cards, but I did complain how the Taiwanese cards perfromed slower than the Japanese ones, so I really hope they get the point.

If the technician is being a jerk about it, or simply denies you, just ask to speak with his supervisor.

So I called Kingston today asking to replace my Taiwanese 1 GB microsd card with a Japanese one, and they said they would do it if they had the "revision number" on the Japanese microSD card. He said it could be find on the back of the Japanese micro sd card (not the adapter) and it would have a - and a . within the number. Does anyone have this number so that I can replace my sd card? Thanks so much!

The only markings on my card were:

0647U*****U
SD-C01G Japan
SDC/1GB

The first one is the serial number, which I have masked. The *'s are numbers. There does not appear to be any revision number that I can see on the Japan card.

My Taiwan card had the following:

SDC/1GB
30***-001.A00LF
Taiwan

I provided the Kingston tech with the previous info, and they sent me a brand new Japan card.

I had them cross-ship, and they placed a $17 hold on my credit card.
I wonder if you could just call them and order a Japan card for $17? That way you could be sure, and not have to hassle with it. It may be worth a try

Thanks Zesta. I'm on the phone with the rep now, and I'm hoping that he will just replace my Taiwan card. So far it's taken 15 min and I have no clue what he's doing on the other end.

Definately call. I did a RMA online and they ended up sending me two more taiwanese cards...so guess these are being sent back.

However, my US Modular card works with castlevania fine now...so sweet!

Since some of you guys are getting crap from the calls and requires some kind social engineering skills (to get your way:) I just settled for the rma webpage and hope all goes well. Ill see what they say on Monday. I just pointed out how unfair it is to get a smaller sized card and how formatting didn't make a difference because i "know" others with the same card (its true im reading about it in here:P)
