This looks like a nice chip, but I think I'll wait for something that will let me play Japanese games on my NTSC Wii. Though it sounds like you can...
Plus, I still don't have a DVD burner (well, besides my dad's computer, and I don't want to transfer backups onto there to burn them...and I can't solder

@111111111:

I agree with you on the first point, but what is the ultimate 10/10 perfect modchip? we don't know what can be done yet, we don't know the technical possibilities... we don't know what to hope for.

about the second point, we couldn't test it so we didnt mention it in the review

Anyway, it's true: this review doesn't cover all the questions.
But we have covered all the questions that we could at the time.
We were not going to wait a couple more days just to answer a question like "can you run a multigame gcn disc", or wait until we have the answer to a question that we cannot technically answer ourselves (NTSC-U/J backups)

@111111111:

Why don't you cut the GBAtemp team some slack....

They have just risked their own Nintendo Wii, that they had to go out and buy with their own money, just so that they could do a review so that people on this forum would know if the chip was worth buying or if it was a complete waste of time.

Yes, they may not have covered all the questions that you want to see answered, but what do you want them to do in the time that they have available - they have to test every game on that list properly, imagine the crap that they would get if they just popped the disc loaded the game and declared that it worked.... They need to actually play the games to make sure that they don't lock up or have other problems part way through.

I am sure that the GBAtemp team will answer the other questions in the next couple of days, once they have had a chance to play around with things a bit more.

If you are not happy with the review, then why no write your own - I mean all you have to do is buy a Wiinja and install it in your Wii (and you won't even have to run the risk of blowing your Wii up as we at least know the chip is safe

Does anybody know how to make a multi-game disk?
I want to test the wiinja's MultiDisc/MultiGames feature.

I'm not familiar with making MutliGame disk.
Is there a tutorial or link somewhere that can teach me how to make them?
Thanks in advance.

Because I don't run a news website that receives samples of products to review. Because I never said I would do a review.. If I had have done I would have thoroughly reviewed it.

Well now might be the time to start your own news website and then you might understand why it is not always possible to review everything on a new product in the time available, especially seeing as you would have to maintain the rest of the site at the same time and post all the other news that everyone wants to now about.

I would have loved to have seen you review the chip on both of your Nintendo Wii's, because you obviously have both a PAL and NTSC-U or NTSC-J console just sitting around in your house.

So your thorough review would have been incomplete as well, because you would have been missing testing on one of the formats of the Wii.

Thats right, I have access to both jap and euro wii's, so my review would not have been incomplete. So your assumption has just made you look stupid.

Thankfully costello was able to see my post as the constructive criticism that it was and didn't start crying about starting my own website rather than fixing the inadequacies in this review (most of which he says will be addressed).

I'm just glad the staff here can be more adult about things than some of the readers....

Does anyone know of any sites that have already dropped the price to 25 EUR? Preferably something in North America but it doesn't really matter.
Myself and a few friends were considering picking up this chip ever since we first heard about it. But seeing as the price is so high, and new chips are coming out I figured I wouldn't bother.
25EUR now doesn't seem too bad of a price. Maybe down the road 6 months or so when better chips come out, then I can take this one off and replace with a new one.

My assumption has not made me look stupid, you are just a very lucky person to have two different region consoles (most people in the UK are lucky if they even have one console) - unfortunately this is what the GBAtemp team did not have otherwise I am sure they would have tested it.

In my original post I was just simply saying that everyone should give these guys a break sometimes as they do their best to make sure the reviews are complete and that everyone has the answers that they want. I have read too many post similar to your first one, where the GBAtemp are being given a hard time about stuff in their reviews.

You were giving constructive criticism, so I am sorry that I misunderstood your post and gave you a hard time.

Sweet review, thumbs up from me. : )

The only thing that bugs me is that the incompatibility with that one DVD Chipset was nowhere mentioned within the conclusion.

I wouldn't call that "perfect compatibility".

I know you where referring to its backup playback capabilities but that "perfect compatibility" is more than nullified if you got that incompatible chipset.

Great review as usual. Thanks alot for your time and effort.

I'm still going to wait and see how this turns out. The problem I see at the moment are the DRE's. I'd be glad to hear ppl's experience with this/other chips, if they get DRE's or if it runs great.

Seems like the videos have been removed from youtube. Any chance they might be hosted somewhere else?
