Nah, you don't need to change at all. Also, the job class applies to the entire party and there are times where you'll need to change your classes as deemed necessary for boss battles and such.

What about against Geruda? I didn't change adn he utterly mopped the floor with me...but when I did change to the proper class, well, he was cakez0r
Good call about Hine, though!
It seems so lame that everyone in your party is the same job...
So everone's a black mage at one time? wtf

I don't know about the DS version, but on the famicom version there are times where you have to be a class of all magic users because you need to be in mini form. You also only have a few classes available at the beginning of the game, regardless of how many job class points you have.
Best way to play seems to be flexible in what your characters are.

One person (white mage or whatever) can cast Mini on the whole party in the DS version.
EDIT: Not only in the DS version either. Also the Famicom version can do it. :/
EDIT: Also you can just use the item upgrade cheat to mallet your party into Tozas in the Famicom version. What I'm trying to point out that class changing is good and what people should really do but not necessary as you guys are trying to say.
Not useless at all since weapons don't get changed in Mini form but physical attacks are weaker. Again,Yeah, but you have to stay in mini form. In mini your weapons are useless, so you'd better be a magic class.
