Hacking probe or no?

okay... i am thinking of doing some dvd flashing on my slim but im not sure if i need a probe or not....

i have a.....
Slim Philips Lite-On 16D4S
F.W.: 9504
Dashboard: 16537

and i am thinking of buying another DVD Drive with a unlocked PCB, but if i do that will i still need to probe?, and how do i flash?

its more pricey to get the xkey and a external hdd then it is to get the drive from ebay, already got a XGD3 buner, and i got 22 DL DVD+R's Verbatim brand

thats why i wanted to know if i needed the probe

Hmm fair enough.

Uhm, that depends on your drive chip.
If you have a Winbond chipset, you'll need to drill into the chip.
If you got an MCIX, you'll need a Sputnik probe.

If you're buying a replacement PCB then you won't need a Probe anymore.
If you're buying a normal PCB then you'll need one since it locks itself after flashing.
