Hacking m3 lite or supercard lite?

So I canceled my order from divineo.com for my g6 lite and passcard, because it was taking so damn long and they kept pushing back the date. After doing some shopping around, I found some good deals. My original order from divineo.com was costing me $143USD, and for that same price (actually cheaper) I was able to find a bundle for a supercard lite + superkey + 1GB microsd + microsd usb card reader.

But now, I'm expecting the M3 lite to be released within the next week or so, and I'm sure I will probably be able to find a bundle equal to the supercard lite one I mentioned above.

I've never owned any flashcart devices and this will be my first purchase, and I've been doing a shitload of research over the past month and I'm leaning towards the M3. I heard that M3 updates their firm/software frequently and has the highest ROM compatibity, but I also want to do MP3's, small amounts of video, and homebrew (DSorganize is at the top of my list, followed by Scummvmds). So should I wait for the m3 lite, or just pick up a supercard lite package now? Is the M3 lite worth the wait if I want the most functionality and compatibility?

If you've waited this long you might as well wait another week or 2 to atleast get a review of the m3. If they're anything like the older versions of the the ds compatibility should be great on both but gba compatibility should be slightly better on the m3 than the supercard.

I suggest the SuperCard Lite if you want near perfect DS and great homebrew. The SuperCard updates their software just as much if not more then M3 so that rumor is not true. SuperCard also has the same if not better compatibility with DS roms then M3. The SuperCard also has a better save system which allows for DS saves to work as if they were real gamecarts while the M3 requires a restart to finish the saving process.

The SC Lite is going to be a better deal overall and it is cheaper to boot. The SuperCard only has some problems with GBA on some games. Its not a big a problem as everyone makes it out to be though. As far as homebrew and ds games SuperCard is one of the best!

Are you sure that the m3 still makes you restart? The g6 no longer forces you to do so and they're made by the same company.

I beleive all models of M3 so far use a battery-backed save method. The save is written to the media card on reboot. Supercard saves NDS directly to the media card and in real time, exactly as if youre playing the commercial cart. Have to say that's the thing that convinced me to get the SC.

SC's GBA performance gets trashed more than it deserves, but the few games it doesn't play well don't bother me much because I also have a conventional GBA flashcart that's 100% compatible. If I didn't have that backup, I might care about it more. There's not a WHOLE LOT of GBA that I care to play anymore, although there's still some on my list. I beat Yoshi's Island on both SNES and GBA now, so that's one I can live without revisiting. Besides, DS will have YI2 soon.

The SCLite has implemented some method of getting much better transfer speed between the DS and game data than any media based card has before. From your research, you should know that the SCL apparently plays all NDS roms currently released at 100% or so close you'll not be able to notice. This includes Tony Hawk, Animal Crossing, and the dreaded Castlevania vid.

EZ4L, which also uses microSD/TF for its removeable media, does not have this speed boost over the miniSD and std. SD carts. So its not something that just automatically comes from it being a microSD cart.

If you preorder the M3Lite without knowing if it has similar improvements as the SCL, youre gonna be pretty pissed if it doesn't. I'd wait for more info.

hmmm... I just got an email reply from psxbox.net and they confirmed that if I order right now, they'll ship me my supercard bundle today, should I do it? So far the votes are 10 for m3 lite and 7 for the supercard... I know I should just wait and see how well the m3 lite reviews, but damn it, I want my new toys now! Must... resist... buying...

I was so close to buying one just now, had paypal open and was about to hit the send money button, but then I watched some videos of the SClite's menu, and it kind of sucks compared to the m3/g6 menus. I know that's a little thing to nitpick about it, but I'm picky like that.

Lol, I think the SuperCard has the best menu as you are only in the menu for about 3 seconds. I pick my game and go as I'm not sitting there saying, "oh look at the pretty menu!" The SuperCard has the best menu in the fact that you can scroll through and pick any of your games within 3 seconds and it loads the games almost instantly.

I have a G6 and I was really looking forward to its meny.

Boy o boy... does it SUCK.

It takes forever to choose a damn game. I really respect the supercard menu now that I've used it.

The G6 DOES save AFTER you restart the game. It takes 2-3 seconds to save the game, which is very annoying.

Supercard Lite is the BEST & cheapest choice if you don't care about GBA support. GBA support on supercard sucks bad.

G6 is nearly perfect in GBA + NDS support.

Go with the supercard lite. The simplified menu is the way to go unless you actually watch movies, read text files, etc. If you want the ability to turn on your ds and select a game, the supercard is the way to go.

On my m3 SD it goes thru the disclaimer for a few seconds, then you have to select the game icon, select directory, and select game to play a game. The save system on the supercard is much better than the m3 save.

I own a sc lite, sc mini and m3 sd and the supercards are much nicer (i don't play much gba stuff now).

There's not much to call between them.. it really comes down to your preferences regarding GBA support/cost/save style/front or side memory card slot, but you should get a decent enough product whichever you choose.

I think there's a possible third contender in this contest.. the EWIN2 micro. As midigear posted in this thread there is a flush version with GBA support on the way. It should be released this month apparently, but I probably wouldn't wait for it specifically over SCL/M3L.

Winner (for me) = the first to bring out a navy version!

I'm interested by the DSLink/DS-X but I think I will wait on a Slot 1 card until an ideal nopass/flash/microSD version is produced. For now a decent, flush Slot 2 card (hopefully with ok GBA support so I could use it for that occasionally once I buy a Slot 1 DS-only flash card) will suffice as I'm still using my 8 month old SC SD.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like SCL is going to be released in navy any time soon. And M3 showed a photoshop of white and ice blue, and a prototype black, with no navy in sight so I am worried they may intend the black as a 'close-enough' alternative for navy owners. So at the moment I'm placing my bets on EWIN, as they seemed to do a pretty good job of matching the DSL colours with their current micro card.

I know there is a short pause between the (annoying but short) passcard splash screen and being able to browse my games but i wasn't sure whether it was backing up saves or merely reading the card. All I know is that so far my saves have worked perfectly and I have never manually backed them up.

SC owner here. The software is ugly but really usable. Quick and easy, you have to love that.

Now when I first got mine I was foolish and had been blinded by all the reading I had done and thought I had to save like the M3 turning it off and then on again. It was a massive pain in the arse! I ended up putting as game into sleep and draining battery because I wouldn't get time to go through the process when I got off the train or whatever had stopped me playing. I don't want to have to think about saving, I want it all done for me.

Get a SC and get better saving, both game saving and money saving. When you have the whole back catalogue of DS games at your fingertips playing GBA games isn't a major factor for me. The ones I have played haven't had any problems with slowdown.
