Hi Guys,

My first post here, just wanted to ask a couple noob questions.
I have an older Wii (DMS Drive) that has already been modded with a WiiKey soldered to the drive, however I can't seem to get the new games I get to load up? (maybe i'm doing that wrong?) I was thinking of de-soldering it and replacing with whatever is best out there now?

My questions are

1. Has anyone here removed a soldered mod before? any tips or things I should look out for?

2. What would be the best Mod for an older DMS Drive Wii? am based in the UK an would prefer PayPal also.

3. Is there a '360 Iso Hacker' equivalent for Mac that deals with burning ISO files or whatever formate Wii uses? (am from the Xbox world)

Here is a photo of suspect WiiKey, thats it right?

Thank you so much for you time, sorry for the noobness :P

The best solution would probably be to go the softmod route. A USB loader will help ou get along without any DVDs at all, bypassing the chip completely. And no expenses for purchasing and/or assembling, because you are obviously not getting back anything by using illegal copies, right?

Also, there have been some issues with various WiiKey versions, you might want to try changing the software version on the chip before tossing it out.

You don't need any special program for burning ISO's. Just download any ISO burning software (there are like a hundred for Windows, I'm sure you'll find plenty for OS X) or use the built in software:

PS: I was disappointed when I clicked on the thread, I thought maybe there was a big fire where we could burn Apple products.

Am in the middle of trying the WiiKey update (just downloading)

But have done a softmod but a while ago now, just updated Homebrew channel an got latest WiiFlow and Custom USB Loader but both can't seem to find the WSFB game on my USB? (or maybe not seeing my USB?) will they load just a normal ISO on a USB or SD without the drive having to be WSFB formatted etc? maybe in doing all that i'm messing up?

Whatever you do , DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE WIIKEY !!!!!

That's how I fucked up my launch day Wii after a dodgy Wiikey installation.
I tried to remove it and resold it, but I lifted a couple of pads while doing so and no expert in the world was able to resold it where it belonged.

Luckily the Wii still worked flawlessly with retail discs, and I was able to resell it shortly after, but still, it was a major pain in the S.

I'll be looking for the Wiikey update on one of my backups drives, if I can find it, I'll upload it for you.

But as suggested, I would go the USB loader rote, who would want to be still burning DVDs in 2013 when the performance and convenience of a USB loader is much, much better ?
If you need help to set up a USB loader, let us know here, we'll help.

Maybe the price of a usb HDD? In some places can be very cost (like here) and the money its not enough to buy one.

I know, I've been to Brazil many times and I agree that electronic devices are outrageously expensive there.
However the OP lives in the UK, had money to by the Wii, Wiikey, bunch of DVDs and has a MAC !
I'm sure he wouldn't have any problem to find a cheap USB HDD or even a Thumb Drive.
Which would make is Wii gaming experience so much better.

The original WiiKey is still the best chip for older drives. Unless the chip itself is faulty, there is no need to replace it with a different one. As mentioned, these days softmodding is a better solution. However, modchips still offer some advantages. EurAsia has the firmware and config discs; 1.99 Beta is the most recent and should work with pretty much everything.
