Valve is developing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Evidence is building that Valve will announce a brand new Counter-Strike game today.

In a thread speculating about the new game on the SteamPowered forum, Jess Cliffe, one of the original creators of Counter-Strike, wrote "Global Offensive".

Supporting evidence comes from the E-Sports Entertainment Facebook page, which reads: "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive... More info in the morning."

The ESEA's own Craig "Torbull" Levine supposedly visited Valve to help develop this new version of Counter-Strike.

The game is rumoured to be set for release during the first quarter of 2012. It's also said to focus on five versus five competition, and plays on an updated Source engine.

New guns and grenades are expected. Will it be free to play, as Valve's own Team Fortress 2 now is?

I kind of doubt it's going to be free to play. I find it unlikely that they're going to implement hats or whatever cosmetic items they want in such an e-sports related game that the previous Counter-Strike games has been.

Could be something worth looking out for though.

Counterstrike was good when it was nothing but a mod of half-life and still free to play. It became an utter piece of garbage the second valve got its hands on it.

Nice, But it wont be F2P for a while, IMO, They should do what they did with TF2, make it F2P after it gets popular

If they make guns where you have to buy them then with money then there goes the franchise.
It should be exactly like the others, with maybe a hat system.

I'd still wait for an official Valve announcement.

But if this is what I think it is, it sounds like Counterstrike for XBLA and PSN... And PC apparently. I don't know why they'd bother with the PC version, Source and the original game are still some of the most popular PC games around.

I'm interested as well.
I play 1.6 pretty frequently, never tried Source.

And I don't think it'll be free to play. Not without hats.
