In a recent interview with Kotaku, Reggie stated that Netflix and the 3D movie service are both coming in the summer. He also mentioned that they "thought there would be a tighter gap between launch and the first network update". He also elaborated a bit on the 3D movie service stating that there would be 3D movie trailers and Nintendo-curated content, that they "candidly, helped finance." An excerpt from the interview is available below.[/p]

"When we launched, we had a fantastic day one and a very strong week one. We talked to consumers. Consumers were highly satisfied with the device. They loved the built-in applications. They loved the game experiences. We had high levels of awareness. We had high levels of intent-to-purchase. But when we started talking to consumers who were aware or interested, but hadn't yet bought, they told us two things: first, I need a big Nintendo franchise for our purchase. The second thing was I need the network to be up. I need the connected experiences to be there. I know those were the two factors, based on the consumer information. So now we jump to where we are. We're going to be launching Ocarina. We're going to follow with a steady drumbeat of Star Fox and Kid Icarus and two Mario titles and the Luigi title. I think we've got that issue not only identified but addressed. We've just done the first network update. We've got the eShop up and running. We've got the 3D movie service still on track for the summer. We've got Netflix still on track for the summer. So I think we're well underway to having that addressed as well. My expectation is that with the adjustments we've made, we're going to be back with strong momentum on the 3DS. The system did not launch earlier than planned. We thought there would have been a tighter gap between launch and the first network update."

"There will be music videos. There will be 3D movie trailers. There will be Nintendo-curated content, things we believe are interesting that, candidly, we've helped finance. I am actively involved in all of that content identification. … It's going to be fun."

I'm glad to hear that Netflix and the 3D movie service is coming during the summer. I'm looking forward to Netflix. Not so much the 3D movie service.

I'm just going to assume that'll be late August.

I'm still looking forward to it. With Netflix's Stream now including every series of Power Rangers, V.R. Troopers, and Big Bad Beetleborgs, I'll have a lot to watch on the stream and it'll be nice being able to watch a movie on my own device while my family whores the comps and 360's.

I'm interested in whatever 3D movie service Nintendo will have though.

By Canadian summer, you mean Australian winter right? In which case, YEAH! Can't wait for the video service, it'll save me so much time instead of logging in to my computer.
June to September.

...so no 3rd party 3D movies? nothing explicitly said like that?

Netflix is all well and good, but if all that's gonna be available in 3D is movie trailers and Teletubbies 3D (god forbid, who knows what Ninty financed... wait, old school Mario movies?), then i totally lost the point of it all. :/

...i so~ wanted to watch Avatar 3D on the 3DS, as i missed out on the cinema/imax.

Good news, hopefully this service is actually good and not laggy as hell because of wireless connectivity.

LOL.WUT???? on which wireless devices is netflix "laggy as hell"?

netflix works flawlessly thru wireless on my wii, ipod touch, laptop, TV with wireless internet, and appleTV.

WHY DO U HAVE TO GET PEOPLE TO START THINKING ITS GOING TO SUCK?????

Netflix is only laggy when you have a shitty internet. On my Evo 4G, previos PS3, 360, Wii, and wireless laptop, it was never laggy. All with wifi.

Let's just hope that Netflix can get their act together before they start to upload Star Trek next month. We both know that Power Rangers pretty much broke Netflix last week LMAO!

NO ITS NOT!!!! its hard enough to start selling your product sold in ONE COUNTRY!!!!! they have laws and stuff and costs to cover that dont allow it to be worth doing.

they shouldnt be forced to bring their service to countrys they dont want to. HOW WOULD U LIKE IT IF THE PRESIDENT CALLED U AND SAID YOUR NEW JOB WAS IN IRAN AND U HAD TO GO THERE FOR WORK??? dont make them go to other countrys if u dont want to go to other countrys

I'm more interested in the 3D movie service than netflix. The 3DS may be the closest thing I have to a 3D television for a while.
