ok so i have been reading around and looking and i still have yet to see anything completely up to date as of today 2/8/2011 for a few things:

What are the latest cIOS revisions for waninkoko and Hermes?

Which should i install waninkoko or hermes (i have herd both a couple of times)?

What base's should i use for optimal success when booting games from USB Loader GX v.2.0?

i have also been told i should delete all "mothballed" IOS's (IOS4 · IOS10 · IOS11 · IOS16 · IOS20 · IOS30 · IOS40 · IOS50 · IOS51 · IOS52 · IOS60 · IOS70) when running on wanin system menu 4.3 is this true and accurate, im also running a 4.2U system is there different "mothballed" IOS files that need to be removed or any that shouldn't be?

i have been out of the wii loop for some time now (since about the time monster hunter tri came about) so any help and the best explanation possible would be really kool.

thanks in advance

I recommend u use ModMii to rehack your wii, it will do EVERYTHING for you that u need to update your softmods. Just tell the ModMii Wizard that your Wii is a virgin even if it isn't.

Sorry for not really answering your questions, but I got work i gotta go do now... so just use ModMii and it will make sure ur wii is running in tip top softmod shape!

latest cIOS from hermes is @ rev5.1 (which is essentially the same as rev5)

latest cIOS from waninkoko is @ rev21, but ModMii also had rev21 d2x v2 cIOSs, which is a mod of waninkoko's rev21 cIOSs, and has fixed many of issues ppl have been reporting

no need to delete all mothballed/stubbed IOSs, they barely take up any of your nand space, and deleting them will not free up any blocks, it will just make your nand dumps marginally smaller. ModMii has offers "extra brick protection" where active patched IOSs are installed to all the stubbed slots, that way u won't brick in the event of installing a different system menu and forgetting to install its system menu IOSs.

configurable usb-loader is much better than usb-loader gx in my opinion. But gx has been updated recently, and I haven't tested their latest updates so it might be less buggy now, i'm not sure. In either case, I recommend ModMii's recommended cIOSs for all usb-loaders. Base 56 for everything except COD:BO, and base 57 for COD:BOs. Other bases work okay, but they're not as fast as base 56/57

yes, base 56 works with Monster Hunter Tri, but as a backup cIOS, ModMii installs cIOS223v4[37+38], which also works with Monster Hunter Tri... trust me dude... I've wasted way too many hours of my life making sure ModMii covers all the bases

enjoy!

1. it certainly won't harm if you install both. I have about 90% of my games running on cIOS222, but I'm still glad I have Waninkoko's latest ones for a couple that don't work, or not too well.

2. for Hermes: just go with the default installation options.
for Waninkoko: 56 is overall the one with the most compatability, with 57 a good second. 58 has only a couple games that need it (anno: create a new world is one), but worth the install.
Personally, I have 36 installed as well, but that's more for testing purposes for mighty channels than that it is needed (most, if not all of the emulated wiiware works fine on 56).

3. like X-flak said: it's not needed at all to delete them.

do nothing else to your wii.

run modmii and tell it your Wii is a virgin.

since you already have HBC you can skip the exploit step. do everything else.

I would recommend you tell it that you are on 4.3 and want to go to 4.1 (or 4.2). 4.3 and 4.2 updates haven't added anything though, both of them were just anti-piracy.

You can also say that you just want to stay on 4.3, in which case it won't tell you to install a new system menu.

I'm glad ModMii worked for u!

Yes, ModMii did install cIOS 202 (if u look in your custom guide u should see it listed as one of the wads u installed during the install wads step). However, WiiMC stopped using cIOS202 after WiiMC 1.06 (I think that's the right version). After that, it started using IOS58+direct hardware access (so if launching from a forwarder channel, make sure its one that launches using IOS58 and direct hard ware access via AHBPROT).

FYI, the same applies for all of Tantric's apps, which include WiiMC and other popular emulators like fceugx, snes9x and vbagx.

edit: so now u want suggestions huh? lol
If u can't get the latest version of WiiMC to run properly, try reverting the last version that used cIOS202 and hopefully u have better luck with that.

well MODMII seems to be working ok so does HBC but i have a minor issue with what IOS HBC is running from on my 4.2u system even when i delete the chanel and reinstall it it still insists on running from IOS61 but the guide says it shoud be running from IOS58....... how do i resolve this issue?

should i delete all IOS files 200 and over and make the wii a virgin again and try from there?

note: i am now currently working on my personal wii rather than the one prior to this post

i will mention how ever that i did not continue with the rest of the guide i just went right to the solve the problem section to try to resolve it ASAP

do you have IOS58 on your wii? if not, install that, then reinstall HBC again (no need to uninstall first)...
doesn't the Modmii guide have you reinstall HBC after installing the updated IOSes (including IOS58) later in the guide... (if HBC is not running on 58 by then)? ...i think if you ignore the problem for now and continue with the guide, you'll see the solution in the process of completing it....

not necessary
