It's kinda dumb how all they did was repackage a 1993 SNES ROM with an emulator, refitted it with Wii controls, then called it a "homage" to the original series.

Actually, I did some more investigation. SNES VC games contain the same files, except for the different rom, pcm file, var file, and game manual. If you extract the SNES VC WAD, then extract all the .app files, you see the same directory structure and same files. The same font file, the same home button files, and in content5 directory on the all-stars disc or 00000005.app in the WAD, it contains the same rom, pcm, and var files. The only difference is the rom and pcm file are LZH8 compressed on the all-stars disc. This really is a VC game on a disc without the game manual.

Now, the challenge is getting this pcm sample pack working in a regular snes emu. I don't think it can work unless there is support for it.

Is there a WAD for this? I want this exact version of the game (including the refitted Wiimote controls) in a channel.

(I'm not asking for a link, just asking if it exists)

If not, how can I convert this into a WAD (one that runs without a USB)? I don't want to settle for an injected WAD that doesn't support Wiimote controls, or an SNES emulator.

They could've done much better than this package for the 25th Anniversary, IMO. It wouldn't have killed them to put more music on the CD, at any rate. ~25 minutes? Audio CDs can hold 3x that; and there's been a hell of a lot of good Mario music over the years.

I'm still glad I got it, for the collectible aspect (it seems to be entirely sold out everywhere around here now; a mere 3 days after release), but it wasn't nearly as good as it cold've been.

Kind of confused why they didn't just put this out on Virtual Console or something since it's already a rom...weird...suppose they figure they can milk more money out of people this way.

Cute.

Yeah, it is kind of amazing how stingy Nintendo can be. At the same token, they have a genius that is very understated. They've always been very careful not to offer too much content because they know it can lower the perceived value of the product. Crazy shit, but that's how people's minds work, generally. I'd say at least 50 percent of what makes a Nintendo game great is sheer mojo.

a bit disappointing. its Mario's 25th anniversary and all they could come up with is a game from the 90's. they didn't even add world or even misc mario games, or update the graphics. i also heard complaints about the OST leaving out songs.i also heard they didn't even bother changing the controller. its still the SNES controller when you look at how to play.

i think i'll pass on this one.

I agree this ones a pass for sure.

I never really liked the SNES remakes in the first place, I mean they look ok but something is just a slight bit off in how they play, its most noticeable in SMB3 to me. I actually prefer the NES version.

I guess if I had to put a name on what I am saying is that the remakes seem "mushy" in the play where the NES version feels tighter?

I completely agree. I went to my Local Gamestop and looked at the screenshots on the back of the box. According from what I saw from the screenshots, the 7GB disk is barely used at all! The entire game is just the "Super Mario All Stars" SNES ROM converted into Wii software code and re-released on a disk format and wrapped in a nice looking box.

I thought the collection would have; Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, SMB The Lost Levels, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine. I WAS WRONG!

I also thought that the game would have improved 2.5D Graphics for the 2D games. I WAS WRONG!

I think I'll just save my money and look for a Dump of the Audio CD and a Scan of the History Booklet. Then I'll just play Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World on my PSP, PC, or Wii and save my money for REAL NEW GAMES like FABLE III, ASSASSIN'S CREED BROTHERHOOD, etc.

The disc actually contains a ROM (with the audio seperated into another file) and an emulator. Takes up about 16MB. The system menu updates contained on the disc actually takes up almost 20 times more space than the game itself (about 310MB).

It's a 4.7 disc, but yeah, they could've squeezed a little more for the anniversary.
