Well, my Wii is completely softmodded (via a guide that I found on here). I have a D3-2 drive and firmware 4.2U. However, I want to play DVDs (non-burned, retail DVDs) in my Wii. I heard DVDX can do this, and then I can use something called MPlayer (or something to that effect). However, I tried looking for a guide and people just say to use the HackMii installer.... HackMii was already used on my Wii, though, to install BootMii (as an IOS, my Wii is too new to support boot2) and the Homebrew Channel.

Anyways, if someone could tell me what to do (is it as simple as installing DVDX and MPlayer via Homebrew Browser?), I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ah, so the D3-2 doesn't allow playback of ANY DVD at all? Well, that sucks.
Nope sorry. The new drives cant play Backups on DVDs or Movies on DVDs. Sorry.
Ah alright. I knew it couldn't play burned DVDs, hence why I use a USB loader for my backups. However, I thought it could play legitimate DVDs. I was mistaken apparently. Thanks for the info.

You can play video from the HDD though! Why not give that a try? The Wii isn't that great of a DVD player anyway.

You can play DVDs with WiiMC, though you'll need to install IOS202 first.

I could, but my external hard drive is formatted WBFS. Does the Wii support multiple partitions?

If you try to resize your WBFS partition you will lose all your games.
If you start off with multiple partitions it works ok - i have 3 on mine - Fat32 , wbfs and NTFS and it works fine.

You just need to have another drive to play with in order to move the games around if ur reformatting it.

True, but I can just use WBFS Tool to copy them to my laptop's HDD. However, how does Configurable USB Loader (or any homebrew, for that matter) know which partition to load from on my HDD? Or can I specify?

WBFS portion has to be the first portion for CFG Loader to load.

If you've softmodded your Wii, you're probably into pirating. Just download your movies in AVI format, drop them on your external drive, and play them that way. That's what my grandma does.
