Hmm...if memory serves, F-Zero GX (GCN) didn't do too hot in terms of sales. Of course, that's not necessarily a driving factor for Nintendo. They're a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in nougat. They defy understanding.

Actually, that's THE driving factor for Nintendo and any other company with any sense.

I may not be the best racing game player out there, but I can do well enough. I completely finished Mario Kart on DS and GC, got every license in GT1 for PS (along with most of the game), and can hold my own in online racing games. But F-Zero GX was the most ridiculously difficult racing game I've ever played. It wasn't even fun, you basically had to memorize EVERYTHING to progress anywhere. And the challenges were just an exercise in futility. I loved every other F-Zero, but after GX, I didn't want to see another one.

Tell me about it. The weird thing is, my wife got hooked on that game. I've played Ninja Gaiden Black about 15 times through, love Viewtiful Joe, and pretty much enjoy any type of challenging game in that vein, but F-Zero GX I could only take in very short spurts. My wife, though, usually can't stand challenging action games -- her favorites are mostly Phoenix Wright, Touch Detective, Hotel Dusk, etc. But for some unknown reason, she can sit and play GX for hours...and pwn ass at it.

I was wondering that the other day. A friend and i were discussing it. I wish there was one for wii... its strange there was none. I would love to see 30 player online matches. that would be ridiculous and need very powerful servers to maintain the all the players. However, the tiniest amount of lag would make the game practically unplayable.

But then there are games like ExciteBots that receive no advertising.
Why bother releasing something that is almost doomed to not turn a profit if you don't tell people it exists?

I mean, god, there were like 3 or 4 on gba, there was an F-Zero on everything since the snes but none on the DS?

p-p
Cuz Miyamoto hates GX and most people would expect the serie sto follow in that direction. I rather have Fzero on Wii. With m+ for precision turning; a must in a racing game where you go a 1000 mph.

You're absolutely right. Thats why Nintendo came out with a remake of Ocarina of Time, a new Super Smash Bros, and another Super Mario Bros game for the DS. Oh wait. They didn't, did they.

Even though they already have enough resources from previous games to make them cheaply and could gain massive profits from millions of fans on the fastest and best selling platform in gaming history.

I think Mario Kart has now pretty much replaced F-Zero as Nintendo's staple racing game.
Agreed to a point. the mario cart series keeps going downhill. Mario cart ds was fabulous, but double dash and mario cart wii was just poor. Now f zero was never on top of either of those with sales by far, due to the ass rape they call a difficulty curve. The game was meant for hardcore players and find it entertaining and will take the challenge. The Wii has taken hardcore players and booted them out like a used up hooker. with Nitty's change in direction, an F Zero title for the wii seems very unlikely due to the fact that wii play is still on the top selling list cause it comes with a wiimote.

Falcon Paunch!!
I don't really think there was that much of a cult-following behind F-Zero, to be honest. They could release two Mario Kart games in the same year and have better sales than if they did a Mario Kart and a Falcon Punch, er I mean F-Zero game. It makes sense if you don't think about it.

Nintendo already sold like over 15 million copies of Mario Kart Wii. I think they know where they'll be focusing their racing. Also, not many casual players can get into F-Zero as much as Mario Kart. Mario Kart is at a much slower pace (HOLY CRAP 30 MPH!) and is generally more goofy. F-Zero, on the other hand, goes at like 1,000 MPH and doesn't have all the goofy, silly weapons and such. Hell, my dad owns a copy of Mario Kart and enjoys it. He actually isn't half bad, either.

I would have much preferred a Mario Golf game for the DS. Third person club swinging view at the bottom... overhead map at the top... touch screen controls... Surely this was a no-brainer?

I can't assuage any sadness about a lack of F Zero on DS, but I can recommend a damn good clone of it- Speed Racer. Yeah, a GOOD movie game. The game is literally the fastest DS game ever. It plays similarly to Fzero and has all the goodness that Fzero has- speed, loops, corkscrews, and futuristic tracks. It's actually a really underrated and sadly overlooked racer. Give it a go. Currently the closest you'll get to Fzero on DS.

What ever happened to Gravity Zero Racing? That looked like a sort of F-Zero/Wipeout clone for DS. Got canceled I guess, right? Probably wasn't enough flowers and bunnies in it.....
