As far as playing games goes, there's no advantage to staying on anything earlier than 4.03. That is the earliest anyone is targeting with backports.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking.
There is a key dumping method for 3.xx but it’s not public yet.

I’m also on 3.20 and waiting….
Yeah cheers, probably only a factor from a dev/preservation reason then. Might have to pull the trigger then I think.

Thanks for both replies :)

How can I avoid losing my pairing to the disc drive for a PS5 Pro?

And is it "over" if it boots into safe mode?

So that one is a tough position. The only way to truly avoid it is to avoid doing anything that might cause a kernel panic. Which is always going to be a risk when running a jailbroken console. There is no way to do this without some risk.

The best thing you can do to mitigate the risk is to use fPKGs when possible (if your console is capable), since those are generally more stable and the OS has better error handling around them. Failing that, don't put other types of game dumps on your internal storage. The idea being that if your PS5 is going to go sideways, you don't want it to do so while the internal SSD is tasked with doing something important.

It depends. If you can get out of safe mode without resetting the console, you should be okay. But anything that requires a reset or OS reinstall (i.e. corrupts the OS or its settings) will lose the pairing.

i have a ps5 with firmware 13.42 so i was able to hack my it , but my questions are :
1 - can i dump and play ps5 games that i currently own on a disc without patches or do i need to do some converting , patching and ecc. after having dumped my own ps5 games ?

Thank you very much for the thorough explaination ViRGE.

So in my situation (I bought a PS5 Pro on FW 13.60 with the disc drive still paired) it would be safer to wait for the possibility to use fPKGs if I understand you correctly. And would I be mostly fine if I just use an external drive for my game dumps? And aside from game dumps for PS5, does the same rule stand for emulators?

Do you personally think it will ever be possibly to pair the disc drive without connecting to the internet?

That would be the safer play, yes. I have to reiterate that it's not foolproof, but it is the least-janky option.

As for emulators, those are generally fine. You can run those from external storage too, if you'd like.

There is currently a way to backup pairing keys. However there is no way to restore them. It doesn't hurt to back up the keys, but right now I would not count on a restoration method coming along. Even after a few years of this, the scene does not really have a good understanding of how pairing works.

I see, so there really is no "risk-free" option. It's always nice to have the physical way, so I'll try to stay as safe as it gets.

The PS5 pro is still on the way to me and I need to inform me about the whole hacking process. So much has changed, the whole scene exploded while I wasn't looking. I'm hopeful that it will find a way to better understand the disc drive with all the new progress that is being made.

Thank you for your time! I'm very grateful.
