mGBA Fixed Audio Tempo v0.4-preview — 2x / 3x Gameplay, Normal-Speed Music
Hi everyone!
I've released v0.4-preview of mGBA Fixed Audio Tempo, my experimental and unofficial fork of mGBA.
The idea is simple: speed up GBA gameplay to 2x or 3x while keeping the background music at its normal tempo and pitch!
Instead of applying time-stretching or pitch correction, the project uses an independent audio clock and separate audio synthesis for supported sound drivers.
What's New in v0.4?
Gameplay Demonstrations
These videos feature actual RetroArch gameplay switching between 1x, 2x and 3x twice.
No artificial video speed-up, audio time-stretching or pitch correction was used.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance — Movement, Battle & Magic
Oriental Blue: Ao no Tengai — Walking Gameplay
Compatibility
The compatibility database currently contains 3,075 GBA release identities.
601 identities are statically eligible for experimental Fixed Audio trials.
20 identities also have BGM-only confirmations in specific test scenes.
These numbers do not mean that all listed games are fully supported or verified. Compatibility varies by game, region, revision and playback scenario.
Known Limitations
Download v0.4-preview
Download the latest Windows x64 release
Source Code and Compatibility Database:
https://github.com/granbone/mgba-fixed-audio-tempo
The project is open source and does not distribute ROMs or BIOS files.
Feedback Welcome!
I'd love to hear about games that work correctly, BGM issues, crashes, and other compatibility results.
Thank you for checking it out!
