Denuvo update blocks hypervisor bypass used to crack PC games

Denuvo appears to have been updated and the hypervisor bypass that has been used to crack dozens of games no longer works if recent reports are to be believed.

The reports state that Star Wars: Galactic Racer remains uncracked several days after launch, suggesting the game ships with the latest edition of the DRM software built to close the loophole that previously cracked Denuvo-secured games wide-open.

Once again, this appears to be causing issues for legitimate players as Steam reviews are reporting issues with the game from crashing outright on startup to other hiccups once in game.

The ongoing lawsuit against hacker voices38 - the anonymous individual involved in the Denuvo cracking situation continues, with Denuvo having filed subpoenas against Discord, Reddit, Valve, and Microsoft to try and unmask and help identify them across the platforms.

Voices38 releases cracks that fully remove Denuvo from games, no hypervisor bypass needed. There's also fuck all Denuvo can do about it if it turns out that individual/group resides in a country that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US. They can take their malware and shove it.

The method isn't possible to patch permanently. The hypervisor can be updated, and then hopefully will work with all the new games coming out.
There are 2 things they can do to block the hypervisor. Patch the hwid checks so that the hypervisor doesn't pass them anymore, or detect the hypervisor itself. Dunno which route they took but patching the hwid checks is easier to do, but also easier to work around, so if they did that, it might not take long to bypass.

Screw hypervisors though. I don't want a rootkit on my PC (2 rootkits even, since Denuvo is one too)

No matter how much effort you put into protection... it will always be hacked/bypassed.

The real question is if it's ever worth the effort.

DENUVO is hurting the experience for legitimate users in order to fight against the lowest common denominators. Not fair for legitimate supporters.

I don't recall him ever doing an actual removal of the thing. Every crack more or less is making the DRM think it's talking to a server and not much else on that front.

Actual removal of the thing requires enormous amount of time and effort. Atm I know only of single instance of it happening, and that is for Assassin's Creed Origins, by SKIDROW.

Once again, anti-piracy measures causing issues for paying customers, while pirates will be able to coast free once they find a workaround. Surely at some point publishers will understand this isn't a viable way to keep pirates away (no they won't they don't give a shit).

You can always pirate a denuvo game, it is always morally correct.

Voices is a hero and I am betting on karma fucking denuvo in the ass for this.

You can pirate whatever you want, but it will never be morally correct.

I don't know if the bypass is actually blocked or if its fair to claim that in this argument. From my understanding the only group that was approved to post bypassed games on "certain fourms" I.e one that was vetted and verified to not be posting malware entirelly disbanded when the first whiff of the voices38 lawsuit came. But something must have been worked out in the days after that. In truth for those working on cracking Galactic Racer, an update has been provided on what's making it take so long and it doesn't sound like it's a definitive block. I hope the mods can understand that I'm not linking to a warez fourm or anything, but I'll provide a direct quote from someone involved with the effort that more accuratly relfects the situation in regards to the updated varient of denuvo below.

"This game seems to use an updated Denuvo, making it a little bit tougher than dropping a day 1 crack. A CPU feature flag that could previously be disabled to allow the crack to work is now almost forced on by the game to open, but it then causes crashes. Something will be cooked up at some point."

Game is $60 and has no demo. Most people are just curious and will wait for denuvo removal.
There are a couple sites you can get up to $15 off, and there's always the option of buying it on Steam just to try it for a couple hours before refunding if it's not your thing. As far as games released this year so far go, I'd personally put it in the running for GOTY along with Pragmata and Fortune's Weave. Graphics, performance, sound design, voice acting are all peak, and the speeder bike/skim speeder control like a dream. Both MoistCritical and Max Dood have been loving it too.

I think some people assume it's an EA game because of the Star Wars license, but it's not. Closest we're gonna get to a new F-Zero for a long time.
