Ape Escape revival reportedly in development with Sonic Mania devs
PlayStation's dormant Ape Escape franchise, last seen in 2011, is reportedly coming back and is said to be in the hands of Evening Star, the studio formed by developers behind Sonic Mania and Penny's Big Breakaway.
The rumour comes from industry veteran Jeff Gerstmann with VGC also saying it has heard the same from their own sources. No official announcement or confirmation has been made yet.
Jeff Gerstmann said:So yeah, some other folks have kind of said that they also heard that Ape Escape is being made. I don’t think this game is close to being out or anything like that, but I guess it’s been almost a year since we started talking about Ape Escape
He added that when he first heard about it, the project sounded like it had only just been greenlit and in the very early stages of development, if at all.
VGC also says that Ape Escape may not be the only PlayStation series Sony wants to bring back by licensing them out to smaller third-party studios.
