I've never had a spyware problem on Discord. 🤷

It is incredibly disrespectful to people who don't like Discord (anyone who cares about being safe in the internet) to lock them into using it. I'll save the "discord is evil" talk for another time so i don't shit up the thread. What matters is, just because you do not have a problem with it personally does not mean it is a great method for software distribution, infact there are quite a lot of objective downsides to using an IM service to host anything. Not being able to crawl it for archival and indexing being the most obvious.

This was discussed earlier. It doesn't work for most Gold tier features, IME. It might let you join a lobby without a subscription but stuff will break. I'm not sure if leaderboards and such count, I thought they were free, but security on the older Xbox Live implementations isn't great so maybe it's true.

I don't consider it theft, you get a sub-par experience without real Gold on your account and I can't imagine Microsoft is betting on revenue from a 21 year old console.

People will bang tables & shout "GIMME THAT IT'S MINE" at developers & then wonder why so many programmers stop sharing code, go commercial, or quit entirely. Especially when they rarely get much, if any thanks for their work.
But at least those pesky ~humans~ with quirks & personalities won't get in the way of fresh, new """content"""... right?

I'm surprised to see the dev behind BadAvatar on this as well! Not gonna bust out my Zephyr Xbox 360 out its selling box for this, but it's great to see more options after RGH/JTAG being the lay of the land for so long. (I tried BadAvatar the past year, it just froze. I think I didn't wait long enough for it to activate I guess?)
