You know my issue with stealth servers? That it's become the idea of """homebrew""". It's so great that people are... checks notes... developing proprietary software that provides mod menus, access to older dashboards, and the ability to get on Xbox LIVE. Either at a monetary cost (👎), or a cost that's not quite clear to the end user :)

The funny thing is, stealth servers aren't required to defeat the challenges (which haven't changed since... idk... 2012?) and get on Xbox LIVE. Maybe you should use an AI to reverse engineer it and load it as a system DLL, completely bypassing dashlaunch.
You wanna know something extra funny? The stealth server devs themselves (even the ones who make cheaty for profit stealths, let alone the more chill devs that host free stealths with zero cheats such as Proto or ReLive) acknowledge that DashLaunch's plugin system is flawed and outdated. Their Discord servers also banned all discussions that relate to trying to get the leaked beta builds.

And yet, some end users of stealth servers are throwing more of a hissy fit over Peer Pressure's design decisions than the literal developers who made or currently maintain some form of DashLaunch plugin.

Why don't the stealth server die hard end users explain to me why the developers of the stealths aren't also chastising Grimdoomer for the lack of a way to use THEIR OWN plugins? I would like to know about that. :ha:

is this like a cold boot softmod (too bad i have a corona console) but still badavatar is like 99% triggered everytime so no big loss
It is essentially a cold boot softmod. From the end user's perspective, you press the power button, and after around a 20-30 second boot time, you are already in a CFW-like state.

It takes 4 clicks to highlight my name, right click, and click "Search". Unfortunately, this only reinforces how inept you are.
I'll be honest. I don't really care who you are outside of here, nor am I 100% convinced you are who you claim to be. it's not my job to investigate every troll who joins spaces claiming to be someone special. You're a brand new account who just joined to complain in this very thread, that tells me all I need to know about you. Have a good one.

P.S. If this is who you really are, you should mention your forum account here on your other pages because it's brand new and joining a forum to argue with people isn't a good look. People will think you're a troll for doing that and they are right to.

BTW, we now have confirmation that Ryan knows about the leak shananigans:
Personally, I just wanna see the all the bingo chart answers :rofl2:

Pretty humorous way to respond and I give him props for that in being chill in a tough situation like this. Despite this exploit having several limitations as it's been explained, I'm confident in installing this permanently onto my Xbox 360 so that I don't need to use a USB every time. We've come a long way from a hypervisor exploit involving Tony Hawk and Rock Band Blitz, to a profile exploit, and now a HDD-based exploit. The future looks bright for the 360.

Let's all appreciate his work and not give hate to anybody as it's good as it can be. Petty drama as demonstrated by other people is not welcomed in this community.

Good on you for verifying yourself on your website. Doesn't make me actually think any better of you. Just lets me know that you're an openly shitty person. Have a good one bud 🍺

Yup. He's way more chill than some people here. Despite my opinions about him or his beliefs I think this exploit is great and will do a lot of good for the community.

Hopefully others will adapt from his work to allow using that against his will.

Hopefully if he does someone else uses AI to recreate it. Someone less petty than him.

less respectable people like Grim.

Hopefully if he does someone else uses AI to recreate it. Someone less petty than him.

So Grim dismissing Stealth servers is just plain stupid and also in extremely bad faith. I'm glad someone chose to leak modified builds of his software with DashLaunch support.

I've always felt that opinionated developers gatekeeping based on their own wrong ideas about ethics and morality was shitty and terrible.

People are right to be upset when he slandered a huge chunk of the community on his public platform.

He'll hose whatever respect he still has with the others who are cheering him on.

Doesn't make me actually think any better of you. Just lets me know that you're an openly shitty person. Have a good one bud 🍺

I'll end the discussion here as I don't want this thread to devolve into just flaming each other, but it's clear you are also an openly shitty person too. Since the beginning of the thread up until your most recent post, you were only speaking negatively:
  • Making assumptions about someone's intentions even though they made it clear there are technical reasons behind said decisions.
  • Openly speaking positively about people leaking something that they were asked not to leak because it might harm their consoles.
  • Saying he "slandered" a huge chunk of the community "on his public platform" (do you know what slander is?)
  • Claiming the arguments are in bad faith
  • Implying he's not a respectable person
  • Saying he's petty
  • Encouraging people do things with the software "against his will"

There's opportunity for nuanced discussion and speaking about what you want to happen. You don't need to be so salty and can voice disappointment with features you want not being delivered. He said he'd work on an officially supported plugin system, but dashlaunch is off the table for TECHNICAL reasons.

"After looking at all the different plugins people are using, they basically fall in to one of three categories: so-called 'stealth services', game-specific plugins, or 'other'. As far as stealth services go, there's no chance I'm going to help you steal access so you can cheat in online videogames. If that's all you want to use the soft mod for, don't even bother installing it and stick to other methods of hacking the console"

Stealing access to Xbox LIVE (a paid service which attempts to prevent modified consoles from accessing its network, per its terms of service) and cheating are two primary functions of stealth services. Some people might have paid Xbox LIVE subscriptions and wish to take their consoles online with legal backups of their consoles. The two groups may use the same software for different purposes, but the same end-goal: getting on Xbox LIVE. This isn't slander, or even speaking negatively about stealth users in general. Directly supporting efforts of getting modified on Xbox LIVE is a non-goal.

At the end of the day he has been explicitly transparent about his goals, what you get, and what you don't get.

Don't like it? Don't use the soft mod, and use the existing ways that work. That's what he said.

As I said before: you can get on Xbox LIVE even with the soft mod. Stealth servers will certainly adapt.

Surely over the 17 years of homebrew development, someone else has developed an exploit method/homebrew feature/application that you can use in its place with BadAvatar and the consoles you have on-hand? Oh wait, I forgot... to my point earlier, nobody actually cares about homebrew in this console scene and Grim is once again disrupting the status quo -- just like in the PS2 scene.

:)

This is just embarrassing.

stealing of Xbox LIVE
Nobody is "stealing Xbox LIVE", how the fuck would you even do that?

developing proprietary software that provides mod menus, access to older dashboards,
That is not what a stealth service is. Those are bonuses, and I am not sure how you take issue with downgrading?

The reason stealth logins are SaSSS on Xbox is because of keyvaults. You need cryptographic signatures from an unbanned console, and if you get banned, you need a way to replace them. Some stealth services can automatically provide new ones and protect your stock KV.

If you think you can do better, make a local alternative.

People like you who obsess over intellectual property law are the reason these programs are proprietary. Do you support FOSS or not? Make up your mind.

Yeah bro you REALLY need a stealth server for your custom dashboards and mod menus and all that stuff.
We use stealth servers to play online. Not sure what is difficult to understand about that, is your brain broken?

Some independent trainers exist but nobody cared. They just want a stealth server to provide them with the all-in-one package because they need their hands held. They aren't patient enough to read some guides on how to run a tool, or change a config file to load the trainer, or patch the binary.
There are quite a few exceptions to this and currently the most popular stealth server Proto provides next to nothing in bonus features, it's specifically aimed at people who just want a modded Xbox online that they aren't cheating with.

The latter part about people being lazy/stupid is a problem with wider internet culture and nothing to do with Xbox hacking. Go ANYWHERE where people ask about any console, or their home computer, and there are dozens of threads where someone didn't RTFM or follow directions.

think critically about the value stealth servers provide
Pot calling the kettle black.

That's not homebrew.
You have a very purist definition of homebrew that does not align with anybody else's. The last time I checked, it did not end with "except the things I do not like".

This is unlicensed software for an exploited console. Simple.

Getting on Xbox LIVE? I'm not going to moral grandstand on this. I stopped playing on Xbox LIVE entirely in 2013. I don't even know who would be playing on Xbox 360 LIVE these days except people with modded Xboxes (and therefore possibly cheating), or Xbox One back compat titles.
I can definitely tell you haven't been on since 2013.

Microsoft is aggressive when it comes to banning because they can detect modified consoles. What do you think the hypervisor and kernel patches to unlock "homebrew" do? Spoiler: they are the same patches as those required to enable piracy and cheating. Are you actually so dumb to think that they would care to differentiate between a console "running homebrew" or not, or that they can even do so? Of course they aggressively ban! Nintendo aggressively bans! Everyone who can reliably detect modified consoles aggresively ban.
Nobody was arguing against this.

Nah, we'll just continue using stuff that's technically illegal to redistribute and poisons homebrew software from the proprietary SDK like Xbox Neighborhood, its janky ass old version of MSVC, XBDM from dev kits, etc.
I don't care and Microsoft shouldn't either.

That is so wrong and disgusting that people like you really do not deserve the work Ryan's put into this. 2 years ago people didn't even believe a softmod for the Xbox was possible. At this point you can run BadAvatar with near instant exploit times to and do whatever you want. But being angry and entitled about a free softmod that has occupied almost 2 years of his work because... oh no, you can't run a stealth server because the design of dashlaunch is subpar for what Ryan wants out of his vision of a framework for his softmod.
See above. You are not entitled to users who agree with your choices.

By patching the functions which return your Xbox LIVE membership level and changes "silver" or (whatever it's called these days) to "gold". See this code I wrote about 14 years ago (this was devkits on PartnerNet though, not ProdNet): https://github.com/landaire/LaunchC...2b32f88a15/LaunchCode/Utilities.cpp#L102-L109

It's quite simple actually:
  • Xbox LIVE multiplayer is a tier of service you generally have to pay for.
  • On Xbox 360, the client is trusted for determining someone's membership level and if they meet this criteria.
  • Stealth services patch this, and bypass checks which are used to determine if a console has been modified.
I don't personally agree with the Xbox LIVE model since all the game servers are peer-to-peer. But you are bypassing intentional checks at various stages which are intended to prevent non-paying members from playing "online" multiplayer, and checks which are intended to prevent modified consoles from playing with unmodified consoles.

That is not what a stealth service is. Those are bonuses, and I am not sure how you take issue with downgrading?

I understand very well what a stealth service provides. A stealth service provides functionality that bypasses the Xbox LIVE challenges (xosc) -- the challenges being hashing of various regions of the system memory to ensure their integrity -- and when those challenges fail, your keyvault is banned.

You can "protect" your stock KV by just swapping the keyvault used to authenticate to XBL and used as part of the challenge/response at runtime before connecting.

I understand that some stealth services provide features that can auto-swap keyvaults too. But the challenges haven't changed in so long. How are people even getting banned to begin with? Just... don't fail the challenges?

If you think you can do better, make a local alternative.

I don't have to, people already have. (Note: not an endorsement!)

Sad but true. ironically they claim others who go against them are destroying the scene while they attack people and gatekeep what Homebrew even is. People like this are the ones ruining the Homebrew scene.

I can definitely tell you haven't been on since 2013.
Their argument is essentially "I don't play online so I don't care" along with arguing that they are an authority in the community so their opinion is fact and no one should want to play online without being banned. The reality is that this kind of disqualifies them from being an authority on this topic because they don't understand shit about it, or what has changed since then. People don't use Xbox 360 online the same way as they did in 2013.

We use stealth servers to play online. Not sure what is difficult to understand about that, is your brain broken?
It's a form of bad-faith debate tactic meant to waste your time. It's common among trolls.

See above. You are not entitled to users who agree with your choices.
This is definitely something they need to take away from this thread. The entitlement of developers to have users agree with or listen to them is overwhelming. Including acknowledging that people can and will fork your stuff to add things you don't agree with.

I wasn't aware, in my experience accidentally logging on without a subscription active I was unable to complete matchmaking in any games.

Grim's stance against stealthing in general would imply that he consciously chose not to allow local implementations either.

Realizing now there is a third page to this thread, but I don't want to drag this out.
