Hi GBAtemp! I'm releasing Battle Arena, my hack of Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 (Nintendo DS, Europe).

What it does
  • Boots straight into Free Battle team select and never leaves it. No story mode, no menus in between: just pick your team and fight.
  • The battle engine is the original one, untouched.
  • Several new characters never seen in the Supersonic Warriors games, unlocked by fighting. Can you guess who the rest are?

How to patch
  • You need your own dump of Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2 (Europe), game code ADBP
  • Original ROM: SHA-1 6681ae01620e736d7428f4bbd84b2388134d5c2b / CRC32 0e001277
  • Apply the xdelta patch with Rom Patcher JS (in your browser), Delta Patcher or xdelta3
  • Patched ROM: SHA-1 7459304a5856cb8ebaf7cf683ba84a15bfa8c7e2
  • Works on flashcarts and emulators (melonDS, DeSmuME)

Download (patch, readme and license):

What's next
  • Bug fixes based on your reports
  • Open to ideas: characters, balance, anything else

Bug reports and feedback are very welcome, especially from flashcart users! Licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

  • Love

The truth is that it's a spectacular, very consistent piece of work, although I haven't unlocked many yet, I see that this project is great.I've been playing for about two 30 minutes and it feels really good, I haven't noticed any bugs and it feels great. Have you thought about adding arcade and multiplayer modes?I won't mention the story because I think it's more complex, but Arcade mode would be very useful for farming points, not to mention versus mode.I'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming updates. Greetings from the land of tacos!

Thanks a lot, Angelus, this really made my day!

For this first version the goal was to build a solid base and see if there was a community interested before going further. Arcade and multiplayer modes are the natural next steps, and so is more work on the character art. So yes, they're definitely on my radar.

I don't have much of a social media presence, to be honest. I created most of these accounts just to reach more people who might want to help make this bigger. So if you like the hack, the best way to support it is to star the repo on GitHub (alejandrobujan/dbsw-battle-arena) and share it on X or wherever you hang out.

There's also an active thread about some guys looking to make a Hackrom for SW2 on r/NDSHacks that looks like a great place to find collaborators, but my brand-new Reddit account got banned before I could join in. If anyone here is active there, feel free to point them to this thread

Sorry my current member status doesn't let me share links yet, but step by step! 😄

How do you unlock the characters? I've been playing for almost an hour and have only unlocked one character.

Great question! Each new character unlocks the first time your team wins a battle with a certain character against a certain rival. Think about classic matchups or rivalries from the series

Would really appreciate a save file with all of the characters already unlocked.
Thanks for the idea! Unlocking them is part of the fun, so I'd suggest giving a try first. It's quicker than it looks. That said, I'll consider sharing a save file in a future update
