Most people just want the free games, a few of my Steam games have Denuvo and it never bothered me, not even on Steam Deck.

I see it as a necessary evil for some games, which is why it's fine when they put it on games during launch and remove it like a year later or so.

The lawsuit allows them to subpoena a whole slew of companies to try and put real names to everyone involved.
As this was done over discord it's likely going to be discord first, which likely gives access to emails and phone numbers as well as potentially any messages giving real names / locations, as well as IP records which can then be used to go further down the road to ISPs or email providers which are then more likely to have real names and addresses on their billing records.
And if the guy ever paid for discord nitro they have bank statements from there. Or if it was via PayPal then PayPal has the bank statements, and so forth.

So, yeah, while they are anonymous at the moment, if they left a hole in their opsec they won't stay that way for long.

This is an intimidation tactic. I don't think they actually expect to find the person behind it, but they only need to scare them into going quiet in order to win.
The lawsuit can't go anywhere until they have a suspect. If the person made sure to practice good opsec, which you would hope, this lawsuit is DOA.

Please forgive me my ignorance… what has been done over Discord? Coordination and discussion between members of a cracking team?
I assumed that people who are able to defeat sophisticated DRM garbage have a working brain. They should refrain from using any KYC (Know Your Customer) services with centralized ownership of infrastructure and missing or incomplete E2EE.
The chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Being member of a group involved in any activity outside legality carries high risks. If there is just one person not protecting their stuff properly this means a Game Over.


Having that said, Denuvo and other invasive stuff should be illegal themselves. DRM/Copy Protection/Anti-Cheat more than once crossed the boarder of being outright malware (for decades).
Sadly "Vote with your wallet!"-attempts do not work. Customers keep buying :shit:.

My guess would be: Good luck suing and catching a random probably russian/chinese dude/dudette/dud and stopping the denuvo cracking.

Absolute leaches! I still can't believe how much money they're making off of their useless DRM solutions. No wonder they're abusing their entitled position to send frivolous lawsuits like this.

No and never, fuck you Denuvo.

The salient points IMO are:

German company suing in Trumpistan - they are aware that European consumer rights would make the denuvo removal legal, even if piracy is illegal.
Why? - Most probably a PR campaign aimed at companies using/considering Denuvo and even maybe helping possible company buyout if something like that is in the woodworks. "Look ma, we're proactive!"

Case without real defendant and which cannot be used as earlier court decision outside US legal system is more or less moot.

They are not protected even in the EU.
 
Good luck finding the person or people that do the cracking.

They are assuming that the culprit(s) is an USA citizen right? Because if its someone in, lets say China or Russia, what is Denuvo going to do?

Edit: Forgot to say, Fuck Denuvo in every way possible.
