Chary to step down as Chief editor: Thank You for a wonderful 5+ years

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the departure of our beloved Chary from the position of Chief Editor. Chary took over early 2021 and has done a wonderful job over the years, keeping our site and community lively, and managing our editorial staff with a firm hand or two. Her real life has caught up to her and doesn't leave enough time to maintain the busy rythm that this job requires, but fear not: you'll still see her around lurking and contributing every now and then!

As a tribute, I would like us to take a moment to remember a few of her memorable articles in recent years.
  • GBAtemp Switch OLED giveaway raffle: 1,708 replies is the largest single act of community participation she ever set in motion; she brought the raffles back by popular demand and made the drawing public on Twitch so members could see it was fair.
  • GBAtemp Java Minecraft server : She asked the community if they'd want it, then rented the server, built the "TempCraft" modpack, wrote the guide, and hosted it on her own domain (mc.chary.tv). Enthusiasm followed all the way through to delivery.
  • AMA: Chary, Chief Charmander : The best available source of her actual voice, with everything people really needed to know about her.
  • Nintendo Direct E3 2021 roundup : 32 live edits to the opening post during a single Direct, with the TempCast streaming commentary alongside. This was GBAtemp's last true E3.
  • GBAtemp Extraordinaire: 5 questions to a legendary Temper: pair it with the four-year Group Highlight series: together they show a Chief Editor who repeatedly pointed the site's biggest megaphone away from herself and at the members.
I'd also like to invite everyone to post your favourite Chary memories especially since 2021. I know that this period of her life has meant a lot to her and she has impacted a lot of people - readers, visitors, lurkers, and community members over the years. So now's a good time to join me to say Thank You Chary for an amazing 5 years with you! We hope to hear your voice again soon on the Tempcast.

I wasn't expecting this! You've brought tears to my eyes 😭

I remember saying to you that one day you would take over from me, and I don't think you believed me at the time! And just like that, 5 years has gone by!

Being CE can be a very stressful role, but you definitely nailed it and have some big shoes to fill.

My favorite memory was watching you go around E3 and posting your live tweets in real-time. I always wanted to go there but could never make it. I got to live through it with you <3

You have done an outstanding job Chary and I hope you get everything you deserve in life and more!

Take it easy now and thanks again for everything xXx
Glad to see you're doing good as well Thug-Life.

Chary was what got me to make an account here.

The quality of the articles, the unbiased no bullshit views on topics. It was such a welcome and refreshing change from what I'd been finding out there.

You helped make a great site even better. Thanks for all you've done.

I joined GBATemp 7 years ago, and around that time it felt like 9 out of 10 posts were by @Chary with her distinct writing style that could not be mistaken for anything else. fair to say I can't imagine this page without her and I hope to see you around every once in a while.

With that said I wish you nothing but success and happiness in your personal life.

Thank you everyone <3

This site has meant the world to me for so long. My favorite part of all of this will always be the community interactions and friends I've made through GBAtemp. I started as a contributor 10 years ago, and it feels crazy to look back on. I was so excited for the orange staff title and was so proud of myself. There were days I'd stay up and, as my user title suggests, post news every hour of every day without sleeping. I'd make sure I'd be there at the start of any Nintendo Direct or State of Play, so I could cover them for all the GBAtempers who wouldn't have the time to watch.

I took a lot of pride in all the content and articles I wrote for this site, trying to help GBAtemp grow at any opportunity. I think of all the little moments, of hanging out on the GBAtemp Discord and listening to people who just wanted to talk, coming up with ideas for new editorials and april fools jokes and things that would just get the people talking and interacting and discussing. All the silly dramas, that one guy who spawned 50,000 sheep on the Minecraft server and almost exploded my server PC, all the people I met that I still talk to to this day, and especially that time after the Hurricane, that I'm sure a lot of older 'tempers remember, helping me in a huge moment I'll remember until the day I die.

When I got promoted to Chief Editor, I was nothing but excited to keep going, keep posting, keep reaching new milestones. There was the 3DS banwave incident, where I was one of the first to cover Nintendo actually fighting back against people hacking their 3DS systems, and Kotaku sourcing me. Fallout creator Tim Cain retweeting my GBAtemp Recommends: Fallout article. Or when I got to stand 5 feet away from Shigeru Miyamoto and try to not let my jaw hang open in shock. Attending E3 as official press media and scurrying to experience every little thing I could so I could report back to everyone here. I'd be here forever if I kept listening important memories and moments I've had on this site.

This place has changed my life. I'm forever grateful for GBAtemp existing. And for everyone here, visiting every day.

i wish you all the best in life and your future endeavors.. Lone Wanderer! 😉 *cues music*
