Sure!

1. Make a backup of your Kenka Bancho 4: Ichinen Sensou clean ISO.
2. Open UMDGen and select the ISO.
3. Go to USRDIR and extract the following .BIN files into your main folder.

4. Go to your main folder, click on the location bar of Windows Explorer, type cmd and press Enter key.

5. Type in KenkaUnpack.py (make sure you have Python installed or it won't work) and wait until the unpacking process is fully done.

6. Once it's done, go to your EX\eventdata\event_scene_000000\event_common\ folder and open DTEventMes.xml via Notepad++, or any other text editor of your choice.

The repacking process is pretty much the same, but in reverse. KB4 has duplicate files and strings, make sure to edit all of them. If you have any certain questions regarding the tools, I'd suggest submitting them to Gil_Unx.
hi, how do i repack it back to iso file? thank u.

Any news on this? hope the variable width text issue has been fixed, thanks for still going after all these years though, really appreciate you.

hey everyone!

it's been a while. long story short, i've tried to reach some coders who have worked on PSP projects before. with some of them, we've made progress on the VWF stuff, most notably locating the font sheets in the EBOOT.PHP/BIN files. however, since they are busy with their current projects, the research has never moved beyond theory
the last person I was in touch with said that they found the areas where the game stores all the positions for the letters that will be drawn on the screen. "The next step is to find the code routine that adds/subtracts 16 from these values because it's a 16x16 fixed font. This is where we will set our hook for the VWF later."

apart from the font issues, we've also found a problem that requires more extensive tampering with the game files: the "tanka battle" system. In kenka bancho 3, this system is more traditional, where you choose the right insult from six different choices. however, in this entry, it's completely redesigned for freedom and a faster tempo. the protagonist can collect more phrases by using laser eyes on the sparkling graffiti scattered around the game and the most important aspect here is that it also allows you to edit the phrases you say during the 'tanka battles'. certain phrases are longer and require more button presses than others
the issue here is that this system is primarily suited for japanese characters rather than english and for this system to work properly, it would require some modding to stretch the speech bubbles and then also localize the phrases for the bubbles. there may be 10 speech bubbles with, for example, two Japanese characters in each, in some boss events

the progress is mostly stalled now and little can be done without some professional coders. If there are any, please reach out to my DMs and i'll link all the necessary files. thanks!
