Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in October

For the first time in 13 years, the Call of Duty series will again return to Nintendo's consoles. Set to launch on the 23rd of October, the latest release, Modern Warfare 4, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series versions. Notably the game will not be launching on either the PS4 or Xbox One.

The game will be a fully-featured release, making use of the system's mouse controls, as well as including cross-play and cross-progression between platforms.

Nintendo hasn't seen a COD game, since Ghosts on Wii U, only took 13 years.
And on Switch 2, it'll have 15 fps and have the graphics massively downgraded, I don't call this a win!

Not sure why people get excited over heavy graphical games getting Switch 1 & 2 ports, they are the lowest versions to play.

To be fair, this is an ActiBlizz game we're talking about. I expect it to run like garbage even on an Xbox Series S. That or have so much uncompressed bloat that it needs half the Series S's storage at minimum, because ActiBlizz sucks at optimizing or compressing their yearly e-sports garbage. EA as well, when you stop to think about it.

Actually, Western AAAs in general suck at optimizing/compressing their games. Some of the more recent ones haven't been properly optimized on anything until months later, if optimized at all (looking at you, Borderlands 4 - the Switch 2 wasn't the only platform you ran like garbage on).

I personally don't play them but clearly they must be good if they sell enough to release a game every year.
Oh no

There been a bunch of CoD games that are quite bad, Even the last 2 are terrible games and the CoD community complained about them.
But they still print money because little Timmy will always go " Mom i want new yearly cod game and cod points" And thus it tops sales charts for over a decade, And thus they assign 5+ studios to keep pumping out games.

Rule is for every good COD game the next 2-3 will be awlful/

Well arent they made by 3 different companies with each releasing a game every 3 years? Is it that one of them is just good and the others are bad?

Something no one has brought up... The Switch 2 controller doesn't have analog triggers, it's digital triggers so that's yet another flaw the game will have.

Shooting games (and racing) feel so much more natural with analog triggers. I've recently played Gran Turismo HD and changed the controller layout from the accelerator/brake being on the buttons to the triggers.

On one hand, I'm actually wondering if I would buy it because friends who mainly play Nintendo games could play with me
On the other hand, I haven't bought any CoD game for decades, I wanted to get MW2019 at the time but monetized the way it was for a game meant to last for a year, then the later entries went harder on the Fortnite skins ......

They even said they'll tone that down with Black Ops 7 and that wasn't true lol. Granted they reacted way too late because the reception was mainly due to the comparison against BF6 close to release, I do hope this time they actually planed for this game to be "more serious" in a way.
Wait and see, if people have hope for it, maybe I'll try. It's probably their last chance to convince people CoD is actually worth a damn.

No one brought that up because analog triggers are pretty much useless for shooters, you shoot or you don't, there's no in-between. People who play competitively on console will favor digital triggers in some form.
Still a shame that the Switch 2 doesn't have analog triggers tho that's for sure. But in this case it's not actually a flaw.

In fact, gyro aim should be supported and it'll be funny to see Splatoon kids get to mow down anyone who has to rely on aim assist

bye bye ps4 pro... why not release this game on the powerfull ps444444 ?? whyyy?
They consider PS4 discontinued by now, although some still release their games on the Switch. Makes no sense.

On the bright side, games on the Switch get the full game on cart.

Probably just because the switch has a strong install base and can still run simple games. Can't complain though
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is hardly a simple game, yet it got a Switch release, but not a PS4/Xbox One.

I do dig the inferior graphics. 😅

To be fair, Nintendo hasn't officially announced that the Switch has been discontinued, so I doubt third-party support will strongly wind down before then. And even after, that doesn't rule out the occasional odd title releasing years after.

Hell, one of the last 3DS games was Fragrant Story, and that released in April 2022, a year and a half after the system was discontinued, and not long before Nintendo stopped accepting new game submissions for the 3DS (the eShop would shut down almost a year after the game's release). So Nintendo will likely still allow Switch game submissions even after the Switch is discontinued.

I'm not sure how Sony handles game submissions in regards to discontinued consoles. It's possible that games could still be released on PS4 by third parties (though, obviously, AAA ones would eventually stop), but it's also just as likely that the deadline for submitting/releasing new PSZ games would be the discontinuation date.

The Switch has such a massive market share that its likely going to go to 2029 - 2030 at least before Nintendo officially discontinues the system. And with recent rumors of them wanting to launch the Switch 1 in India next year.... it may go for even longer.
