Hey guys, been a lot since an actual progress update.

Life is absolutely kicking my ass lately, and the current state of my city and country isn't the best so there's a lot of stuff I have to deal with that I didn't need to before

Just wanted to greatly apologize for the total lack of updates on progress. In all honesty I haven't been able to even as much as touch this...

I promise I will make it up to you guys the best way I can when this is over, somehow.
Again, I apologize, I know everyone is waiting and waiting and waiting for new stuff to come only for nothing to show up :sad:


Unfortunately this semester I won't be making any games for assignments so I guess I will get even less practice this time around as well, sadge

We completely understand! You have no obligation to us, and what's happening in your life is much more important than this Undertale port!

Status update!
I just got the great opportunity to contribute to a homebrew project that is called Cinnamon

It is an engine that natively reads GameMaker data.win files, which means that it could potentially be used for playing GameMaker games directly on 3ds!

It is still a heavy work in progress, but it is very very promising

Just got to work in it a bit ago and so far it’s going well. Updating thread with images soon

This Undertale demake project will still be developed, I will just be contributing to Cinnamon alongside it

Damn, that's quite interesting!

But if you mean directly on the 3DS, then would it basically be the PC version running on a 3DS without the advantages the touch screen has to offer?

(Side note, the Deltarune 3DS port makes better use of the touch screen, to the point the dialogue box appears there and not in the top screen like in your Undertale port.)

Yes it would mean without the advantages of the touch screen unfortunately, we are thinking of adding support for using the touchscreen as a mouse but that will depend on the game and whether or not it makes use of the mouse itself

Also about the dialogue boxes, I did also notice that, I might change them to appear on the bottom screen as well. Thanks for the tip! If you also have more suggestions for using the bottom screen or any other feature feel free to let me know :yay3ds:

I'm kiiiiinda back now?

I've had time to work on this the past few days, and I think I've made quite a few improvements and optimizations to the text and dialogue systems. So performance should be better overall now (cause like, this game is 99% text lmao), this includes the tilemap system, so room loading takes less memory and is a bit faster now

I've also finished the Flowey encounter completely, it's been so many months since I actually touched this game god damn

It was an (still is tbh) absolute mess, but it should be a lot better now. Improved loading time and performance a bit for it, as well as actually changing the font when flowey says "Die" lmao, I didn't do that before for some reason eeee

Also also also! I added support for languages for the normal dialogue as well! Interactions with objects and npcs can now talk many languages depending on the user's setting in-game (can be changed anytime, ofc). Now only menu text is left to add language support :yay3ds:

As of now, I'm working on cutscenes, so that there can be some actual gameplay with Toriel, I'm thinking of having it up to the dummy room for a public build, and start making the complete Ruins from there

Yess!! I'm super excited

The next public release might not have the new languages implemented since they will probably be a bit unfinished, but the translators are doing their best! Hopefully I can finally get something out after all this time lmfao 💀

The general save structure of Undertale has been added, as well as added support for the flags used in game

Now all that's left is to actually make the parts and cutscenes that use them, but it's going to be much easier to control events and special interactions now that they're added
(This includes fun values)

Finally the game can actually remember what you do lmao

Well uh I got a bit more to say hahaha
After I added this I thought it might be a good idea to start using it at least a little for a quick test

Now Flowey can recognize if you've met him more than once, which is pretty cool to see :yay3ds:
It saves properly! :D

I think this can also open the door to new custom stuff using fun values or even for small side story quirks exclusive to the 3ds 👀

Slow but steady people, we're making a little bit more progress

This is great news! Been following this project for a very long time and i'm hyped to see the future of it!

My offer for that French translation still stands :)
