Its not officially supported by AKMenu-Next but iirc from what @The Catboy said, you need to set up the autoboot for Twilightmenu++ and then replace Twilight's boot.nds with AKMenu-Next's boot.nds
Post automatically merged:

AKMenu-Next will likely support cheats in the next version.

I've got an interesting issue.

Latest release of AKMenu-Next for dspico, loading a rom via nds-bootstrap im hanging on a white screen, however, resetting the dspico and manually loading the nds-bootstrap-release.nds rom in the /_nds folder will load the game without the white screen.

Roms also load correctly with the 1.6 release of picoloader and also with in pico-launcher

  • Flashcart: DSPico
  • Flashcart FW: Hybrid FW + NTR boot support (from Ansem Seeker of Darkness's BYO Firmware here)
  • Menu: AKMenu-Next DSPico Edition. Link
  • Additonal SD Files: DSPico Loader 1.6
  • Console: New Nintendo 3ds XL
  • Console System FW: 11.17.0-50E
  • Console CFW: Luma 13.3.3
  • Other Info (Original Jap 3ds Region Swapped to EUR)
  • Test Roms: The Legend of Zelda - Phantom Hourglass (Europe), Pokemon Black 2 (USA, Europe) (NDSi Encahnced)
Many Thanks for the work you've done :)

  • The last run ROM upon boot is now auto-selected by the cursor in the menu instead of just the top of the folder
  • The favourites folder is now also supported as a last run rom destination

  • Fixed a bug causing the game "Battle of Giants Mutants Insects" being detected as homebrew

Wow. Finally got around to updating this on the pico now. I have to say it's basically perfect now. Being able to access the DSi's SD is a nice touch. Just need soft reset added to pico-loader.

AKMenu-Next v2.2.0 New
New Release: AKMenu-Next v2.2.0

To install or update, follow the installation guides linked on the first post.

Long asked for feature but AKMenu-Next finally supports plugins, much like the Addons feature of Twilightmenu++!
You can now launch your emulator ROMs, Videos and more directly from the AKMenu-Next file browser.
Plugins can be found here and more information about the plugins is available here.

There is no doubt there will be bugs or non-working Emulators, particularily with the DSi SD card because not all emulators work on it, but if you can test and let me know, that would be great. If you find an emulator not working on the DSi SD and you find that adding bootstrap=1 to the XXX.ini file makes it work, please let me know!

Changes

  • Added plugin support. You can now launch emulator ROMs or Videos directly from AKMenu-Next if the associated plugin is installed.
  • File list can now handle more files per folder, credits to @RAMDRAGONS

Plugins

  • Install plugins by downloading a plugin or plugin pack, extracting it on your computer and copying the _nds folder and any other files it comes with to your SD card and "Replace" files if on Windows and Merge files if on MacOS. The file types supported by the plugin should then show up on the list.
  • For .gba files and the GBA plugin, if an Original EZ Flash 3 in 1 is inserted, the 3 in 1 takes priority over the plugin.

Known Issues

  • Not all emulators are compatible with the DSi SD card, this is not something I can solve as some emulators are older and require a flashcart no matter what.
  • There are bound to be some bugs or broken plugins, please open an issue on the github repo stating your setup and which one doesn't work and I will look into it.

Hi, yesterday I tried this latest version on my Nintendo 3DS and when I added a folder to favorites, the folder icon wasn't visible. This is a bug that didn't occur in the previous version.

Does the issue fix itself if you disable "Custom Icons" in the settings?
I've reverted to version 2.1.0 and have the custom icons option enabled. In this version, the folder icon is visible in the favorites section. If I disable this option in version 2.2.0, will the folder icon still appear?

Sorry I was trying to determine if the cause was the new file list code or the custom icons. If it works on 2.1.0 then it must be the former.

Disabling custom icons falls back to the built in stock Wood R4 ones.

I don't know if the other icons like those for Nintendo DS games are visible in the new version, I haven't tested that. Yesterday I upgraded to version 2.2.0, added a folder to my favorites, and when I opened it from favorites, the folder icon wasn't visible. It's only missing from the Favorites section, it is visible if you navigate from the microSD card.

I'll wait for the next version to see if it's fixed. Thanks anyway for this project.

I've tested this version and it works perfectly, the folder icon is now visible in the favorites section.

One question. I only use akmenu-next for Nintendo DS games. Will there be any performance updates or improvements in that area? Thanks.

Good to hear it works.

What performance updates or improvements do you want to suggest? The only thing I can't change is anything thats handled by nds-bootstrap or Pico-Loader that isn't configurable.

Sure, I understand that depends on nds-bootstrap. And for example, how can I change the folder icon? I see they're in a .bin file and I have no idea how to change it.

The folder icons are in the Nintendo DS Banner Bin format so you can open the .bin files with this tool: https://github.com/TheGameratorT/NDS_Banner_Editor

Then once you opened the bin file in it, you click "Import Image" and select your new icon (it needs to be .png) and then go to File and Save

I'd like to mention another problem.

When I open the 'tools' section and press the X (RAM) button, the menu freezes. I have to press the HOME button to exit.

The "Tools" menu is only for the EZFlash 3 in 1 slot 2 cartridge.
Ah, okay, I didn't know that, sorry.

By the way, would it be possible to integrate into akmenu-next the option to disable widescreen individually for each NDS game? There are NDS games that don't support widescreen (the game crashes), and I have to disable it from the Luma settings for all of them.

Thanks.
