(I'm using a modded WiiU with Aroma that my brother set up so please excuse me if these questions don't make sense or if they're stupid.)

Do I even need to bother with understanding how the modded vWii and homebrew channel and so on work, if all I want to do is play games? Because the way I understood it is, that I can inject all the games I want with UWUVCI and start them from my WiiU menu. Are there limitations to this?

I started the Wii menu and saw a channel called USB Loader GX and when I opened it I was in another menu that looked almost the same so now I'm confused and it would be nice if I wouldn't have to bother with the Wii/vWii at all.

For Wii and GameCube games you have two options: you can install them directly to the Wii U's main menu using UWUVCI , or you can play them through USB Loader GX.

  • UWUVCI: all your games will appear on the Wii U's main menu and you can play them using your gamepad. The downsides are that you miss out on a bunch of features from USB Loader, you have to install every game, and from my experience some games won't work.
  • USB Loader GX: you don't need to install the games, if you want to add a new game you can just copy the file to your HDD or SD card. You get a lot of features like cheats, emunand saves, changing aspect ratio and resolution, among others. But as you mentioned, you need to open the USB Loader channel on the Wii U's main menu whenever you want to access your Wii and GameCube games.
So in short, just use USB Loader. UWUVCI isn't necessary unless you really need to use the gamepad as a controller.

Wow, thanks for the fast replay.
I'll look into USB Loader. Sounds way easier than always injecting the games.
One more question: Can USB Loader use my usb drive if its already formatted for the WiiU? Or can I only use the SD card for USB Loader games?

Edit: Alright, I just read some posts about how to use USB loaders and what you need to do with your Drive. That sounds way to complicated for me xD
I think I'll just stick to UWUVCI even if it's not ideal.
But still, thank you so much for your help.

If the entire drive was formatted for the Wii U you will need to format it again following this guide:

If you already had Wii U games installed you can use NUSspli to reinstall them afterwards:

This only applies to nintendont/NGC games or Wii games support classic controllers. For wiimote only wii games the simulation feature in the injector is a hit or miss.

Or install ISFShax + USB partition plugin to make wii/wiiu games on one HDD with 2 partitions.
