Hi
is there a way to remove the capability of the nintendo 2ds to connect to the internet?
the official way would be to set parental controls but according to the internet there are ways round this
another option would be to remove the wifi chip but from the internet it seems this can cause issues

perhaps there is a custom firmware which does not allow it?

Depends on what you want to stop though, online services for the 3ds been dead, not like you can purchase any content on the system anymore, if you are afraid giving someone the system and want to prevent them from browsing the web perhaps don't give them the system.

Are you trying to prevent your kids from accessing the internet? If so the easiest way would be to block the device at the router level, and make sure that one is up to date and set up to require proper authentication.

The other option would be to disconnect the WiFi antenna from the WiFi board itself, that would ensure the 3DS simply loses any and all reception. It's also pretty easy to reverse since all you'd have to do is plug the antenna back in.

correct that is what i am trying to do
apparently it affects startup if removed as the ds checks all hardware

There's no perfect solution/unreversible solution that I'm aware of. You can block it on your network, but that doesn't apply to other networks. You can unplug the antenna, but a determined enough kid can plug it back in. Why not just get a DS lite and an R4? If the kid is not old enough to be allowed internet access, there is still plenty to play on an older handheld

The antenna is almost certainly not being checked by hardware, only the WiFi card / chip itself is. The antenna is that wire connected to the board, and that's not something that can be checked easily to be present since its just a single wire.

thanks for this, the next post reply also suggests unplugging the antenna, will this def stop wifi access?
does anyone know how i can gain access to the antenna and unplug? many thanks

i understood that some of the custom firmware forces boot without checking hardware (not sure why) so i thought maybe modding it then removing chip? but i am not knowledgable about these things.

Perhaps you should refrain from messing with the hardware, then? There are plenty of people out there who have thought themselves "knowledgable" who still managed to wreck their units by tinkering with the interiors.

Just blacklist the device's MAC address in your router. That's not going to stop someone from taking the device elsewhere and connecting to a different router, but really, what's stopping your kids from getting a ten-year-old smartphone and accessing the Internet that way?

This is a crazy solution, I once did it though... lol

Delete the settings app, you then won't be able to configure the wifi settings :)

you could always run the ds bricker on 3ds which basically neuters the wifi firmware :^)

(the console is still usable but you will notice many things fail to work after (mostly related to things that use or are related to ds/twl mode) its a joke so dont actually do this)

but you wouldnt be able to recover it easily without a donor system to dump some files (and i dont actually remember what those files are or the process i went through tbh)

for an actual answer tho just:

add parental controls or remove the settings app from the homescreen

yes there are ways around it but tbh if theyre able to do that im pretty sure they can just undo whatever you did to the system anyways
