So Ive recently bought a new 3ds xl wich seemed brand new and everything was working fine. Then after i installed the cfw firmware the 3d effect has a ghosting/double image effect.
I considered it being physical, but its so odd that it happened immediatly after I installed the homebrew.
Please help, i can't find any information online and i really enjoy the 3d effect. everything else seems to be working fine

And how do you think the custom firmware could affect your 3D effect? If a custom firmware had such outrageous bug, you would find it in search, don't you think?

Have you tried the EXACT same software Before and After do draw such conclusion?

Also, is there anything obstructing your front camera? Any dirt or scratches? Have you checked if the infra-red light is working properly by verifying it with a phone camera?
Yes I've tried the exact same software before and it worked just fine, I used super mario 3d land and the calibration settings to check, since that had happened to me on another 3ds that actually had scratches in the lens, this one did not, I did check with the phone camera.
Its probably just a fucked up coincidence and would happen regardless of the firmware, but it happened literally right afterwards.
Either way I plan to return it so yeah no help needed anymore. You also don't need to act like a douche while replying btw, I was just asking for help.

You can check if the infrared is working by looking with a phone camera, since they can see infrared.

Also, don't try to imply people's tones by text, if I wanted to call you things, I would have done so directly ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ I just asked you two valid questions, if you are saying its the custom firmware, you probably have a base, so I asked for more details. The second point was obvious, I can't say, exempli gratia, that my phone have a problem, say its caused by the camera app triggering a malfunction on the processor capabilities of keeping cool (just because its hot after a camera app update), and outright reach the conclusion one thing is connected to the other I'm the only person affected by it. Its too much assumptions at the same time.

For example, if you thing the custom firmware is the problem, you could've just reverted the NAND to the backup you are supposed to do before installing custom firmwares, or followed the guide on how to uninstall the custom firmware that exists in the same site the install instructions are.

We aren't even speaking our native languages by your country flag, sir. I was just trying to help with your answered topic to the best of my knowledge.
You're right, I took that in the wrong way, hope there's no hard feelings!!
Messages have a way of messing with our brains I tell ya. Yeah I've used the nand backup to revert it all and it's still there so it's a base console thing, I think what maybe happened is that the camera was already vulnerable, and the slight pressure I made while unscrewing the back case (stupid ass restriction to get to the sd card btw) did the job, could that be it? Sorry again for lashing out

You could try calibrating and/or turning off the Super-Stable 3D, in the 3DS settings menu, since that is related to the new 3DS 3D functionality. You should be able to see a preview of the tracking in the bottom right corner this way too.

I've tried both and I still get it :// idk what could have caused this, it was working a few days ago

HAVE U FOUND A SOLUTION????😭😭😭 I have this problem as well :( after installing a costume theme on my modded 3ds then wanting to change it, I just started seeing THREE GHOST 👻 😭😭 I have no idea how that could've ruined my 3D, then I resetted my 3ds like brand new thinking it would fix the 3d but no, it's still there, now I have a modded 3ds with ruined 3d :/ pls tell me if u found a solution:((

+1 to this. Any ideas? Used mset9. I was so convinced it was a hardware issue that i got another unit but it happened again there as well.
If this sort of thing regularly happened when people used mset9, there would be a lot more threads about it and big warnings everywhere.

You can follow the "Safety Test" at https://3ds.hacks.guide/uninstall-cfw.html to see what happens when you boot native firm. (Please do not follow the rest of the instructions to uninstall CFW.)

The system boots to a black screen when running safety_test.gm9 from gm9.

Well, that probably shouldn't happen.

When you say you "used mset9", do you mean you followed the instructions at https://3ds.guide , or did you follow different instructions?

Also, what happens when you start your unit with no SD card inserted?

Yes, I used mset9 from 3ds hacks guide on both units. I did have to region change it from japanese using ctrtransfer (also both units) so maybe that's why? I don't think the guide ever says to move the boot files to the system nand so without the SD card inserted it doesn't boot.

If I'm not mistaken, that happens as part of the finalizing script at https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup.html .

Does the notification light (near the R button) flash blue?
I know it did say that when I last modded 3ds systems in 2020, but that was 6 years ago. That doesn't seem to be the case now. I do distinctly recall running the finalize script when I modded this new system and that copy doesn't seem to have happened here.

Ive gone into GM9 and have ran the option in the GM9Megascript to copy the files to nand. I'm now in the home menu without the SD card inserted and the issue hasn't changed. Ill attach a picture of both systems side by side if itll let me upload, its currently stuck at 0 percent.

No, if I turn the system on without the SD card the power on led turns on for a few seconds and then back off again.

This is my good faith attempt to upload an image of the issue once more because GBATemp won't let me. Mods please don't ban me, instead fix your website.

I have already posted a more detailed reply to your post, I don't know what order these will clear moderator approval in.

It's not just the camera, it *is* this bad in person.

I prefer imgbb.com when I need to share images.

I don't think I've ever heard of that happening.

You're probably better off asking on the Discord; I doubt anyone here will be able to help you.

I moved boot files over to nand myself, seperately from the guide, so that shouldn't happen anymore. What about the 3D?

so that shouldn't happen anymore
There are a lot of things that "shouldn't happen"! Does that mean you've tested it and found out that it isn't happening? Does Safe Mode work now as well?

(ETA: Come to think of it, I guess Safe Mode isn't supposed to work on a region-changed unit.)
