Sometimes I accidentally press the 'Power Off' button combo while playing games like SSX Tricky or Soul Caliber. It exits Nintendont when I don't want to. As you can imagine, it's a real drag being kicked out of the action and losing your progress.

Does anyone know how to turn off -- or at least change -- the button combos for reset and exit?

I would truly appreciate your help.

Enabling "Native Input" supposedly turns off button combo's, but it also disables the use of any other controllers except for GameCube pads. If you're playing on a Wii with a Gamecube controller plugged into the side ports, then this shouldn't be a problem. :)

I've never tried turning off button combo's so I'm not 100% sure if this works.

It worked! Thank you! Now I might need a way to exit out besides hitting the power button on the console ...

You're Welcome. :)

I'm not sure if you use USB Loader GX to boot your Nintendont games, but if you do, you could always just change the settings of your games individually.

So you'd go back and disable "Native Input", that way all your games can use the reset combo again. Then (from USB Loader GX) go into the individual game settings for your problem games (e.g. SSX Tricky and Soul Calibur) and turn "Native Controller" ON from in there.

You'll still have to get up and power off the console manually, but ONLY for those two games. All the others should still be able to take advantage of reset/power combo.

Hmm. No, I don't use USB Loader GX for GC games, but thanks anyways. I've been turning it off with the power switch. But I wonder if this is bad for my console or software ...

As long as you're just pressing it, not holding it, it should be fine. Nintendont handles the power down, making sure to save before powering down. Only problem I can think of is if you're running it from an USB HDD that's powered through the USB.

Nope... it's fine. That's how you have to turn off/reset the console using the real Gamecube compatibility. :)

Hm, really? Well, thank you for that tip! I'll be sure not to hold it, then.

Oh, but I _am_ running the games from USB. What do you guys think/know about that?

ps: Thanks so much for all your help so far.

Any updates on this? Disabling the button combo is not ideal since this forces a hard shutdown, which cuts power to the USB HDD without spinning it down first.

I found this thread on changing the button combo, but not sure how to "recompile the source code," whatever that means.

https://github.com/FIX94/Nintendont/issues/328

Anyone willing to post a walkthrough?

Exiting with native controls is possible, but to me there is another drawback, if you mix emulated memory card with native controls(my ideal setup), and either press the reset button or Start+B+X(if the game supports it) it will reset but the memory card emulation will stop working in various games.

I have a build posted in the description of this video. Note that this build requires a loader to work, and the reset combo is disabled in every controller. This way works just like the official MIOS but without telling the system menu to turn off.

Oh cool, thanks SuperrSonic! I run Nintendont through USB Loader GX, so do I just place your .dol in SD:\apps\Nintendont ?

And thank you GreyWolf for the link. I guess compiling is the part I needed help with...I already made the necessary changes to the code. Is the next step to go to the trunk directory and type "make" into the command line?

Wow this works fantastic! It allows the power button to be used to quit to the system menu globally, but with global native control off the quit button combo is still functional. Then I can just enable native control for the problematic games to disable the quit combo. Hopefully some day I'll learn how to change the button combo, but until then this will work perfectly.

Thanks so much for posting!

I had the same problem, so I've implemented a fix in a custom build of Nintendont. You can find the latest version here, I'll try to keep it up to date as much as possible.

Hi there, SS! Is there a way to simply just click the power button to return to USBLOADERGX? I have that working for pretty much everything but Nintendont does not want to play nice, it always just TURNS OFF lol

And your version seems to work but inexplicably brings me to a black screen. So close yet so far

I don't understand why Nintendont doesn't just backout to whatever you want it to on Priiloader or USBLOADERGX. It's doing my head in!
