Donald Glover announced as the voice of Yoshi during The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Nintendo Direct

Announced during today's Nintendo Direct, it has been confirmed that the critical role of Yoshi in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be none other than Donald Glover, the American actor of Community fame and and musician under the name Childish Gambino. The dinosaur, originally joining the Mario cast in the 1990 Super Nintendo release Super Mario World, has played a pivotal role in the series to date, leading many to speculate who could could possibly fill those iconic red boots. With so few voice lines featured so far, it is yet to be seen whether Glover will truly be the perfect fit.

The final trailer for the movie was also aired.

I... don't even get the hate? The movie looks like it's gonna be really fun, and stuff. I really enjoyed the first one. Probably gonna see the Galaxy movie with my dad like the first one in theaters.

...Inb4 I get eaten alive fer not hating mario/nintendo enough.
For me, it's not hate. It's a... what. I don't understand how he's going to work as a voice for Yoshi, short of modifying it to the degree that you might as well have picked a voice actor that could actually closely resemble Yoshi's voice because you can't tell it's Donald's voice anymore anyways.

Another pointless ND. It's just a countdown for a trailer with some extra commentary at the end.

This is what a real Nintendo Direct used to be:

RIP Mr. Iwata.

Man i loved the WiiU, is a shame it was a failure, otherwise we could have got a lot more/better games

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but sadly, I think you're right.
I personally think that all of these random celebs being in these mario movies is a terrible choice. Especially when its NOT a live action and they already have good voices for EVERYONE from the games they currently have?? Not using the main voice actor for mario AS mario is just a terrible choice. If its as low quality as Chris Pratts "Mario" Impression saying "ya who". I dont want to hear a grown man in a monotone voice say "Yoshi"

i get you, tbh i dont dislike anyone of the actors, but its pointless, it could have been proper voice actors. All of this "shows" where they make directs just to announce the actors that are going to voice the characters feels like a dam circus. Why cant just use proper voice actors + release the damn trailers out of nowhere like with every other damn movie instead of do directs for that?. Also, i just notice that the personality/behavior of the toads is almost like the Minions, which i hate
