Early reviews mark Pokemon Pokopia as one of the best games in the series

The embargo for Pokemon Pokopia reviews has was lifted earlier today, and boy are those reviews ever positive. Coming in with an average score of 89 on Metacritic and 88 on OpenCritic, the game is set to be one of the highest-rated titles in the Pokemon series to date. It should be noted that these reviews naturally only include those written by outlets with early access to the game, but is a strong indicator that we have a fantastic game on the way.

Being developed by both Koei Tecmo and Game Freak, Pokopia appears to take a good bit of inspiration from the Dragon Quest Builders series, blending it together with the bright atmosphere and familiar faces of the Pokemon franchise. I'd love to give you more information than that, but wanting to keep the game fresh for myself, I've personally skipped the reviews and early footage. Anybody on the fence can expect a review from us around a week after the game launches, but know it's one I've been looking forward to since it was originally announced.

Imo, which means little past numbers are still going to matter, even if it's a hours worth of fun it's still going to reflect the amount sold and positive feedback scales. The more positive numbers dev studio gets the move dev studio can produce even if it's half baked messes and has a big enough fan base for it.

Fixed it for you, because you could insert literally any other AAA dev (especially Western ones), and it'll still be true (if not more true that just throwing Nintendo's name in there without context or nuance). Hell, the aforementioned The Last of Us Part 2 has a much higher rating than it deserves, when you look at the sheer different between the Critic Score and User Score (with only the latter consisting of review that weren't average or better), but I'm sure Sony and Naughty Dog would've royally screwed over any reviewer that was 100% honest with their review of that game.
fair points. im just using the knowledge that i can prove. it can be proven very easily that ign gets paid off by nintendo with free trips and free gifts. same with disney. ign is nothing but paid promotion. they arent critical of anything unless there isnt money to be made of the promoting it. some of the others that people are aware of there isnt the actual proof even though it most likely true.

if i did say what i believed people could say i was using sensationalize and hyperbole. so i try to keep my comments within what i can prove even if there is more to it.

glad to see others recognize these paid promoters for what they are. nothing but lipservice advertisements.

It won't receive constant streams of updates like Minecraft, Terraria, Stardew Valley. So it will never truly compete with those games.

A part of me does want to say that more and more people have been catching on to how untrustworthy video game "journalists" have been these days, especially with some of them even resorting to generative AI to cut costs wherever possible. Another part of me, though, knows that there will still be people that are that easily duped by people who are paid to make a product sound better than it actually is.

That being said, as one YouTuber I occasionally check Top 10 videos of said: "Good old IGN. Can't spell 'ignorant' without them." Only those who are truly dumb/moronic would take anything IGN says as gospel truth - it's to the point where even The Pokemon Company won't let IGN live down their more ignorant decisions (ex: "7/10 - too much water").

Hopefully the game is good for what it is, I still want to hate it because it's Pokémon and it's like hating an ex that doesn't deserve to be doing so well.

I'll be at peace when they'll start to do good mainline games. DQB games are good and I'm sure Pokopia will not be worse (at least not by a huge margin), but as good as it could be, it's absolutely pathetic that we could genuinely consider this one of the best games from the biggest crossmedia brand mankind has ever known. It's just a cool spinoff, literally copied from another cool spinoff of another huge brand. Just talking about it makes me mad :hateit:

I think this being the first game-key card release of a Nintendo published game soured it for a lot people including myself + the general modern Pokémon negativity (for justifiable reasons). It's good that Pokémon still has got it when they outsource stuff. On that note can we please outsource Pokémon to Square Enix to make a Black & White HD 2D remake?

I'm generally of the opinion that Metacritic/OpenCritic scores are generally pretty good tools to ascertain a general quality of a game, but really digging into the reviews themselves especially the negative ones can help you find out what the game's problems are and if they are a dealbreaker for you.

after Famitsu gave Scarlet/Violet 9/10/10/9, I'm reserving judgment on any games related to Pokemon.

Obviously any reviewers with a Switch 2 are going to justify their purchase, publication, and position whenever they can.

It looks like a good spinoff. I just think there are a lot of spinoffs from back in the day that would have gotten the 89 treatment by today's standards.

Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of almia, Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky, and Pokemon Conquest come to mind. anyone calling Pokopia the "best Pokemon spinoff" already may need to check to remind themselves how the standards have changed. Drastically.

those titles remain the best selling pokemon games in japan

perhaps we do not understand what japanese people like in games

I don't remember talking to you or insulting you personally.
And yet you insist on being here, anyway, despite how frequently you voice your dislike for being here (and dislike for Nintendo in general). When even the guy who hates Pokemon unconditionally is calling you out on it, I think it's best to take that as a sign.

P.S. It's funny how you're editing your previous messages to remove everything. As if it wasn't possible to just search for people's replies to you to see what you said.
