Switch releases of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen confirmed to contain event-exclusive ticket items

Announced last week, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen have today launched digitally on the Switch and Switch 2. Featuring little in the way of enhancements or emulation filters, it was initially speculated these were one for one ports of the original titles. Mere hours after the games released however, a Japanese speedrunner was surprised to see both the Mystic and Aurora tickets in their bag after beating the Elite Four.

These previously event-exclusive items grant the player access to Birth Island and Navel Rock, home to legendary Pokemon Deoxys, and Ho-oh and Lugia respectively. With Pokemon Home support to follow, these Pokemon will be later transferrable to the modern entries.

Just wonderin' what is ACE?
Arbitrary Code Execution. Basically you can execute your own code in the game to do whatever you want. In the Gen 3 games you write out basic instructions using box names, and can do things like creating Pokemon, adding items, adding in a temporary NPC that will trade a Pokemon back and forth with you. It's really powerful stuff.

Papa Jefe is a YouTuber that's got a lot of guides on it, and spent 11 hours testing the Switch version today. It doesn't seem like it's exactly like running on real hardware due to the emulator not exactly being accurate, but he's spawned in a shiny Jirachi egg, he's changed his trainer ID, cloned Pokemon... I imagine he'll get a full guide up for the Switch version in the next few weeks.

You can skim his VOD below though if you are interested. Check the description for links to his guides for the game on real hardware:

It does make me think twice about wanting to play with ACE... Annoying...
I personally like it since it's allows for a pure vanilla experience.

I really hope there won't be a way for pokegen in the new games, it ruins the fun for me when I see a ton of perfect Pokémon and tons of shiny.

Oooh, I have to peruse this. Sounds fun!

Also I gotta admit, this version of it not being straight emulation like people assumed is interesting. I guess... like, the swear filter is to match with later games since HOME support. Though I gotta wonder, why isn't HOME supported from the start? Very strange considering..

It is straight emulation, just with a new ROM that has had some adjustments.

So wait, overpriced GBA re-re-re-leases with things anyone can easily pokesav into the original roms using even the crappiest phones? Oh yeaaaaaaa!! And games that are totally viable in official video game tourneys too.

We know they recompiled the game, but 1 question didn't get answered :

Does the deoxys/hooh/lugia events are implemented in the gba file itself or as an emulator patch?
If it's in the gba, it would be cool to dump and preserv that rom.

Beat me to the punch.
A friend of mine bought one of the games and noticed that he could no longer call his rival "Schinke", which is what he called him in the original game.
The name itself is one letter away from "Schinken" meaning "ham" in German. Why is that not allowed? Your guess is as good as mine.
"ham" or a "ham wallet" is another derogatory term for a woman's... private area.

That sounds a bit like a stretch. Banning everyday words because they can also be used as a bad word, if you were to translate them into another language. I bet there's lots of words that'd have to be banned, if that was the case. Though this would be a very creative way to circumvent a bad word filter. RedBlueGreen's guess about the German word containing an English slur seems more plausible, I'd say.
Though... Now I wonder if just "ham" (in English, of course) is banned because of this.

Someone discover if is posible to inyect .sav files into the game like in 3DS?
If is posible, the Aurora Ticket appaers in the inventory?

Hopefully someone is able to rip both games and convert them to a proper .gba rom file with the event pokemon like the
Yu-Gi-Oh! EARLY DAYS COLLECTION roms.

The telemetry is probably the most interesting part of that. Wonder if it’ll be used to soft ban from Pokemon Home if you get up to any shenanigans? Can’t think of any other reason it’d be there,
Something that wasn't mentioned at all in other threads, is that Nintendo collects telemetry about your progress in-game, such as to what level your Pokemon are at. This is likely to do with banning cheaters.

I would take a slightly more optimistic angle wrt the telemetry: It could be used to enable profile icon and platinum point challenges.

That being said, doing that and protecting against cheating are not necessarily mutually exclusive, and it doesn't feel great to not have a privacy toggle of some sort available.

I doubt it's to do at all with finding / banning cheaters. I just literally think they want to know details about how people play their games.
It helps them make decisions about how to improve future ones.
Maybe interesting seeing how players do in the gba remakes, compared to recent gens.

I'd want to know if it was me, but from a privacy data collection standpoint, nice if we could disable it. But not surprised at all that they don't let us.

I guess many / most of their games have this stuff, I remember seeing BOTW's telemetry stuff once, tons of details. And that's only because someone decompiled the code and investigated, because it's a very popular game.

If there's some exp / level up bug, or similar stuff to exploit in the game to "cheat", I believe they will never pubish anyone.
Talking about BOTW again, they'd never ban for playing with all of the game breaking glitches and skips people find to have fun with or speed run with.

But banning for actual system hacks... yes of course :)

Oops you beat me :)
