I only saw it before shit kicked off, I guess, but I'm gonna assume the issue was breaking the licenses of the emulator cores used by not providing source & attribution.
Yeah that was obvious and part of the drama but I thought this was a GitHub issue and not a gbatemp issue.
At least I was surprised the mods didn't just remove the link and/or ban OP and/or close the thread (as opposed to completely nuking it) so others can at least follow the license discussion and learn something on the way.

For the record, I didnt report them on github and neither here on gbatemp

Only joking btw.. i have no idea what went down 🤣
I made a shitpost mocking the way he was acting towards everyone and accusing everyone grounded in reality of being alt accounts. He replied to it seriously like a moron, I think? I couldn't really tell. Anyways, after that, he edited all of his posts and said @garbagehuman123, @mathew77 were going to make a replacement IIRC. Then, after I assume he realized I made a trolly shitpost mocking him, he edited the message to say I was going to help them with the replacement? Almost as if I couldn't do it? :rofl2:

Anyways, I ran the thing through Ghidra and did some quick string searches and came to the conclusion he made it with ImGui and SDL_Mixer. I don't know. I hate people like that. The smug attitude. Thread got nuked by the next time I checked back in.

Oh man I missed half the fun and came back to everything edited already :rofl2:

I read through it...

Sadly people like them can scare away the proper devs.

The meme "You made this" - "I made this" works well.

I think what I found the most amusing and confusing was him claiming that everyone was after his code. He said he's a web developer trying to master C++ and admitted a lot of his code was spaghetti. What would any of us want with that, exactly?

Also, the claims of fixing some of PPSSPP's compatibility issues even though all of the fixes were the results of him using updated code from the master PPSSPP repo if IIRC?

Reading through the thread started making my brain collapse after a while. The delusions were strong with that one. I just did a quick Google search for tiicu and he's spreading it everywhere he can. Even claiming he wrote the entire thing himself using nothing but OpenGL? I'd love to hear his explanation for all of the ImGui strings then.

humm looks like this project has been rebranded into 'tico' with a quite unique UI.
On the latest release the yaba sanshiro core that I think was previously unavailable for the Switch was added and seems to work at full speed so no more need to do the all injecting method to play sega saturn games.

Yea I actually was surprised how good the Saturn emulator is, even with no to little OC most games are fullspeed at 60fps. And there’s really haven’t been any Saturn emulator released on switch that’s close to full speed. And this is with resolution at 720p, with no or very little OC.

In fact Tico is staying in my switch just for the Saturn Emulator, I’m pretty much treating it as a Standalone Saturn/SegaCD emulator.

Ah! When I saw the thread, I had a weird feeling of AI slop emanating from readme in the project. I didn't test it though but that gave me a little scare for the future of the scene.

probably copy pasted it again into chatgpt and suggested a full refactor even for the app name :rofl2:

it's most likely a yabause fork he found around to steal, like every other uncredited and license violating emulator in this crap

I just tried Tico for saturn games, HOLY CRAP it's amazing.
I don't care if it was vibe coded as long as it works!
And so far it works pretty well. Even seems to have resolution upscaling.

GPL violation is not something to ignore just because the software works. Ignoring that license means the community loses access to bug fixes, optimizations, maintenance and improvements that should legally be public. All the things you're impressed by could be even better if the source were open and others could contribute.

Keeping things GPL-compliant and open means it keeps getting better.

He just found a magic mythical Switch Saturn emulator that doesn't exist anywhere else with about 10x better performance.

How about you just give some praise for the good work the person has done? NOOOOOOOOOO it's not open source waaaaah I have to complain endlessly about this!

Need to check your SD cards and hard drives to see if there's a single pirated ROM anywhere on there. Hypocrisy much? Let me guess you personally make back ups of every single game you emulate right? Pfft.

Without open source software, a lot of the tools and platforms we all rely on every day wouldn’t even exist. Including the ones you’re using to post this.

That said, you’re mixing two separate issues. Supporting open source development isn’t the same thing as endorsing piracy. They’re not inherently connected. If you want to keep the arguments logically consistent, I’m all for debating. But if not, yeah, maybe we should push to destroy open source so you can’t use the internet.

Furthermore, in order to offer any meaningful praise, it’s essential for me to examine the work itself.
