IDEA FACTORY
GOAL complete translation of the game from japanese to english.

DESCRIPTION
Dungeon of Windaria is the fruit of the combined efforts between the character designer and art director Inomata Mutsuki and the game art designer Hirano Katsuyuki. It is an RPG that tells the epic adventure and romance between two countries, the prosperous northern superpower Paro and the southern uncontaminated nation Isa. The two countries has signed a peace treaty, stating that they were not to engage in any sort of military conflict against the other. However, the ambitious Paro has always had its eyes on the beautiful Isa.

It is Izu, a village youth in Isa who stopped Paro in the brink of time when the northern superpower planned to drown his home country. Although a major catastrophe is prevented, the relations of these two nations remained strained. Izu, however, catches the attention of both countries' and is asked to join the war effort. To make matters more complicated, prince Jiru(Zil) of Paro and princess Anna from Isa are in love with each other and their romance is interfered by the upcoming war.

known issues:
A) the value for medals in/under the treasure menu is being read as ascii. so instead of 30 you see itt or something like that you can still purchase it just lists the medal value in ascii.
B) some of the letters in the font are not displaying correctly. I am not going to do anything about this. AS THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE SCRIPT FOR THE STORY TO FIT. Its not an issue of space in game more of I don't have enough pointers to fix the extra space needed to use the original font.
To be more clear I have the space but cannot get it to add pointers to them. I will not take any complaints on this but if you can make a 5 by 11 nftr or 6 by 11 nftr font pm me and I will send you the table file or you can get it yourself from the unedited game - Normal.NFTR.
This is an issue in that it makes the other text in game (in many instances) get squished. This is not something I care to look into - I AM NOT GOING TO FIX IT(yet). AS despite this the game is still very much playable.

To do:
fix font
-remove all ascii numbers from text
-remove ascii numbers from font
change order of (?)picked up (?) gold
as in 11 picked up Gold

change meld to mix
fix font width on screen
fix kyle name on screen appears as KYLE....characters
anna should be mary name fix

fix screen behind izu's choice pallete is scewed

fix "Izu story clear" done
"return to title" done
should be returning to title DONE

fix view map description it says use sleep
fix potion description has space before DRinking this potion
same with Hipotion desc

fix SCORE AREA and RESULT graphic
result should be smaller the LT are hanging over the box graphic
move "total play time", "completed" over to the left
fix "reach" in text it should be "cleared"
save game button and replace with delete save
check item list pointers and redo from beginning insert
redump attacks list pointers and retranslate and insert and test (noticed while going through to remove ascii #'s)
-I only noticed as by going through pointer by pointer to check for #'s. What was being repointed did not need to be and that something was off. this then made me go right back to the beginning and recheck

So the bugs i can report...
I noticed that there's something wrong with items pointers in game.
Some of them are not visible, but when selected shows as different one or when used gave different effect.
And characers names - Anna should be Mary, there's others minor failures to fix.
Anyway this game is still nice and playable, don't have to be perfect.
One thing I don't get it - saving doesn't work, same like in original version.

Ok, saving works good. It's autosaving, and that icon in menuscreen is not saving but deleter of the save file.
And item list in main menu freeze on 6th page, (I think it was armour with some kanji name).
I bet there might be character not defined in fontfile or pointer just indicate second character of Shift-JIS string or some trash.
So It's also risk to pick some armour up in game too. It's chance that game will freeze maybe because of the same reason.

offtop... I beat this short game, and so on I started search for more stuff related,
so I watched anime (1986) which this game is based, but I've got mixed feelings.
Worst drama I ever watched, why people fight, what's war for, it's stupid, I never get it.
Anyway music is great, espcially this one (美しい星)...

any update on the new font? i honesty couldnt enjoy the clearly well made translation because i had to squint to see the text half the time

just downloaded your font have not taken a look and may not for a while. been dealing with real life stuff this last while. My allergies went up several notches from 30+ things allergic to to 150+. alot on the list that I am allergic to is crossable and worse some of it when used together in a production process can make stuff I am highly allergic too. so I had to change my life to reflect this. which meant way less time for this stuff and just staying alive. yes this affected the medications I had been taking and that also changed things. not an excuse just this is a hobby and I would rather do what I have to stay alive then this.
Either way this project is on the back burner as I promised some people itadaki comes first. even though sakura taisen tempts me....

plasturion if you could tell me which armor(s) great. but if you are done playing do not worry about it. I was going to redo the pointers (yeah all of them - freaking ascii). I just thought hey its done and kinda playable release as is and let the bug reports come in.

I wonder if this project has been updated / fixed recently or in progress?
This is pretty nice dungeon crawler game, it would be nice to see it polished enough.
I also did some trails with fixing palette on chapters title. Palette file seems to cut off some bytes for no reason,
and translated chapter names seems don't share background colors causing some glitches. Here's how it looks now.

As for pointers i think they need inspection for reposition, there's no so much text in this game so it seems doable.
Binary compare and grabbing all of them on with some tests, however much of them have different references to other text than expected, so it may take a while. Therefore it would be good to know how is going?

I did something like pointers scanner for certain consistent block of strings.
As for the original binary should give all the proper answers, so we can find any data disintegration for patched game.
In the strings block between 66540h to 0x67100h patched game is missing correct reference to 3 strings.
Here's example of reading next strings in the block and it's founds in corresponding pointers of scanned arm9.bin file.

at position 668C6h is "Diamond" string that doesn't have any pointer, pointer at position 662F0h points to
previous one string, the same one like pointer at position 5F354h. Another one that wasn't found points
somewhere else... but where? The way how desolated pointers are can be risky as we don't know
what pointers indicates now and are not as original ones anymore. (incorect strings or worse too long trash or illegal memory address). Also now having this unordered pointers list but followed in next in block order now can be easy
to check if translated text keeps correct strings in order with original, and modify space by needs. However
that can be done by copying both text blocks to text editor, auto-translate and compare following strings.

Rest of the strings seems to be at right place for this block.
Another limitation can be just mismatch of predifined string data type by developers that we actually don't know,
so if translated text is bigger it may also sometimes make an issues.

Speaking of 118th line pointer - "HempRobe" that wasn't found either... look at this... I think I've got it.

Look at the 3rd byte of this little endian notation. We've got 609076h, that's definetely out of any string tables in memory.
I guess someone mistake 60 with 06 by simple mistyping. So this may be famous and dangerous armor for picking up.
Funny thing is that on R4 card game just freeze, but on DSi with TWL++ displays pretty long string. (depends what
was previously in ram) Or rather it hangs because DS lite has only 4MB and it points at 6.5MB + .

Other stringblocks have different order so if there's a need to fix things up it would be better to use original one pointers order to dump all the text from english patch review and reinsert, It's not so hard to fix things up. I only found struggles
with text formatting for half-sized numbers (ascii) sometimes it gives some extraspace, but that's not a big deal, I guess.

I wanted make sure none of string and pointer are unrefered, so it came to the point that actually i did some
custom tools for fixing here and there and I made this retranslation side project.
It fixes all the things on the "to do" list and much more.

- fixed reference all the pointers to the strings with 1:1 ratio
- fixed several item names and desrciptions, spaces and returns
- fixed item names displaying on the list, item details screen
- cost of things in the Treasure Room are present now with common digital numbers
- improved storylines, now they are more related to Windaria movie translation.
- translated statusbar states
- fixed number of max items you can hold in your inventory.
- readable font plus some more, added some katakana signs keyboard, and my custom set of symbols.
- translated message for deleting save data to correct one.
- recovered few wiped out pointers and rolled back original binary file size.
(maybe they were remapped at the end of file, but there wasn't any issues with a free space, so it looks more tidy now)
- minor graphical improvenets.

This translation largely based on rastsan's translation, and all other people involved in it, so It is more like a fix.
You can treat it as a continuation for later improvement and with all the info included in disclaimer details in OP.

When I apply either to "Dungeon of Windaria (Japan).nds" is says successful but neither will pass CRC check and fails as it is expecting crc="bc3542ee" md5="2d9d2abd739c64db8276bec2a7b9ca03"
 
Yes there's are two, mine(DungeonOfWindariav07.zip) is extension of OP windariapatch.xdelta plus graphical and pointers fix.
to patch you need Dungeon of Windaria (Japan).nds CRC32: 88854EEB
output CRC32: CD652FAE

I even beat the game to lvl 100, got all bestiary, no single bug has been found. Keep in mind that this game has items randomization, so with every single run we don't know effect of the bottles we are trying at first time. This system get me confused when I played first time, but this is how it works.

due to the fact it wasn't 1.0 and instead 0.7 I assumed there was still stuff to be done

I see, well maybe that's my way of marking full but imperfect version : )
There are copule of things that can be improved and I don't plan.
- formatting routines that produce uneven space before number value, its eastetic stuff but i don't want change asm here
- script style minor dialogue chagne or correction, however most of them is based on official movie fantranslation.
- I wasn't sure if there are some minor inaccuracies in items description, let them be.
- even if you are doing your best you can overlook something, but everything seem to be working fine.
I thought if anyone wants to continue to polish it even more then it could be fine to leave a room in version numbering for others.
