You buy a $450+ Switch 2 and be our test dummy then....make sure you try those 3rd party docks also.
Got a chance to test this today. Unsurprisingly the Switch 2 won't dock with a OLED, Switch, or a couple of my third party docks though I didn't try all of them. It also seems to put the Nintendo docks into a weird state requiring a power cycle before they will work again. All of the docks charged some with Nintendo's charger and others with various USB PD chargers. The dock with ethernet did allow the Switch 2 to connect to the network.

More surprisingly, things didn't go the other way either. The OLED Switch would charge but not dock with the Switch 2 dock. I suppose we'll have to wait for third parties to give us a combination Switch/Switch 2 dock.

I didn't realise how much of a pain it would be but yeah. We need a combo dock.
Agreed, I didn't think about it until I realized I wouldn't be able to easily move from TV to TV without more Switch 2 compatible docks now. Yes I know, first world problems. :rofl2:

I'm going to try some third party docks or "hubs" tonight maybe. I have a handful of smaller portable ones from work, but only 1 specific one from Lenovo out of the 4 I have at home actually works with my Steam Deck (obviously I know this is a different system). I feel like these systems are very finnicky and look for specific chipsets similar to the original one. Would explain why ethernet works from some of yours but video does not display.

I was going to try some last night but was a little weary because I remember all of the issues with the original Switch and third party docks/power supplies potentially bricking the systems so I didn't want to just start plugging things in willy nilly to a brand new system.

It should be easy enough to search for but I remember cases of third party docks bricking Switches some time ago. It must've been PD related I can't think what else would cause that.
yeah it was something to do with PD but not specific to Nintendo it's more fault of Google and the Type C standards.

he switches were not "bricked" per se but a mall 3.3v regulator would get fried in the charging circuit.
you just needed to replace the 3.3 volt regulator.
I think this happens in other ways too not just from 3rd party docks now.
I swear I have seen a few repair videos of broken switches from ebay from not 7 years ago or even close where this was the issue.
