So far we know the Switch 2 is directly based on Switch hardware and is even backwards compatible with the previous gen.
With the great patching of 2018, only way to mod a patched Switch, Lite and Oled is thru a modchip.

Of course, with new hardware comes new measures against modding. Would be funny if they unintentionally brought back the paperclip jig but of course it would never happen and + if it DID happen you can't just trigger it because the Ounce's joycons don't use sliding rails to connect, rather they seem to use extra plugs. (The future, wow!)

So far exploits are nothing since it just got announced. I'm betting on modchip.

But if it DID get hacked, then it would be Gamecube all over again, so i'd except some kind of Nintendon't-esque homebrew that runs Switch games... which would easily be redundant because of the capability to keep digital old switch games, so maybe we'd get an app to install Switch 1 NSPs
And we could probably develop something to run Switch 1 homebrew? Either natively or thru some kind of layer

Oh and emulation. Being based on the previous Switch, i was at first thinking you just edit Ryujinx source code and voila. But...
Much like the rest of the 9th gen i wouldn't except emulation just yet. I mean, our only known spec is that apparently our little Ounce has twelve gigs of dedotated wam, and most computers have like 16 gigs, with operating systems using up some of the ram. The Legion Go 2 will have a 32 gig option and is said to be really powerful with the Z2 Extreme CPU. So it would be at least plausible unlike PS5 or Xbox Series. (The xbox one isn't even modded yet! Whaddya except from Mr. Windows)
But with Big N attacking everybody i'd safely recommend keeping it private for now

Since this is a thread about purely speculation, i'd decide this would be the go-to thread for Switch 2 modding guesses

Much like with the Switch 1, there is a high probability of an exploit being found. Whether or not it is publicly shared is an entirely different question. Safe money is on a mod chip.

I said this in 2017 as well, but nothing is unhackable. Much less unmoddable. It depends on the willpower of those who are capable.

I agree it most likely will be via a modchip if found.

I wonder how many people will buy one and keep it boxed on v1.0 only to be opened when it exploitable. I know at least one person that will do that...
I will be pre-ordering multiple. At least one will be staying in box. I'm thinking about keeping a few stored away to sell (at retail price) to potential homebrew devs if a low firmware softmod is ever released.

Edit: Also there are several theoretical hard mods that can work on current gen Switch hardware. No one has ever bothered to implement them because they have no advantage over glitching the BCT signature check. I'm hoping at least one of them will make it into the Switch 2. Possibly not though. Rumour is the Switch 2 bootrom has lockstep instructions and we know for sure that it replaced the single BCT of the Switch with 4 smaller ones, which means that part of the bootrom has been rewritten.

Maxwell -> Ampere w/ exclusive hardware block(s?) & NVN 2 API, no way its getting emulated within the first 2 years.

Source?

the modchip is probably the most realistic outcome imo, Nintendo has no doubt been onto console modding
way more than usual because throughout the 3DS lifespan all they really did was patch exploits via updates
and ban users online, it was only for the switch where they took things a step further by outright patching
exploits with new models of the switch, which wasn't present with the 3DS or even the wii funny enough.

though i wouldn't rule out an exploit all around as i wouldn't be surprised if someone found some goofy shit you can do with the magnet-cons for an exploit.

The most possible is the modchip but honestly I also wouldn’t rule out the magnet cons for some dumb extremely complicated way of modding it. I feel like we will find a way to mod it using the cons first then we will get a mod chip.
