How big is your NAS?

Thanks to having an old laptop that I don't use, as well as some hard drives I've taken out of some other computers, I've gotten into home servers. Right now, my NAS is 500GB, and I'm thinking that the next hard drive I get would be 2TB.

I use half as backup and the other half as download storage. Got it end 2023 and is about 70% used. I am really bad in throwing stuff away: I clean up my data once every couple of years or I buy a larger disc if I don't have the time or don't feel like it.

I have a 6TB NAS that I hope to upgrade a little to 10TB sooner or later.

The reason why I have it is that I use it as storage for basically all my other devices, and it's much more power efficient in getting what I want than having to start my big PC first. Its basically 5w at idle vs 220w at idle, so in my case definitely worth it.
Pretty useful to keep backups, my music, my movies, my important documents, and so forth centralized.
Also I could put it into a room where the noise doesn't matter to me, which is great.

Are you sure you bought a 12 Gigabyte drive in 2023 and not a 12 Terabyte drive?

Are you sure you bought a 12 Gigabyte drive in 2023 and not a 12 Terabyte drive?

8TB. Two bays. I'm a little disappointed in the Synology for sharing outside the network, but otherwise it's been fantastic. Most of my HDDs are used for my Plex, on a different setup than the NAS.

Same as others here, 4tb WD. I only use it to stream movies, tv shows to firesticks throughout my house using the Kodi app.

That's surprising. My DS215j has been working great outside of my network as well, though I'm the only using it and I have my router handle a DNS entry to my domain, which over all has made it a pretty reliable setup for me.

My NAS is roughly 30TB (with two parity drives), with 20TB more on the way over the weekend... I self host everything, and has my "backups" and my actual real backups of all my physical media (blus, games/saves, etc).

2TB, but I mostly just use it to sync with a remote server. I'm the future I'm also considering adding some more storage to backup my photos more frequently

My Pi NAS is 1x 14TB and 1x 8TB currently, with about 6TB free currently. This one is mostly used for videos and music to stream around the house.

And I do technically use my desktop PC for network storage as well, which has:
1x 12TB HDD
1x 8TB HDD
1x 2TB HDD
1x 4TB HDD
1x 2TB SSD
3x 1TB SSD

So all said and done, about 53TB worth of storage around my house, and about 13TB of free space currently.
