Have you tried plugging the drive in after enabling FTP? Not sure why this is happening or if this could help but it's something maybe worth trying.

Try the plugin openps3ftp.

No, if the drive is external.

Just make a backup and replace the harddrive like you would normally. You won't lose CFW.

Installing a new hard drive on CFW is the same as installing a new hard drive on OFW. Turn off your console, remove the hard drive, and insert your new one. If it is a NOR console, your PS3 will prompt you to reinstall the firmware from USB at which point you will follow the normal CFW installation instructions to complete it, ensuring that you install the same CFW that you were on before swapping the hard drives.

Is the new Evilnat version (4.89.3) really compatible with all PS2 games like it's said? If so, are PS2CONFIG and the PS2 Classics Emulator Compatibility List redundant?

Did you try it in this Evilnat release? If so, I don'f get it why it's stated "full PS2 compatibility".
I don't think even bc units are full bc, just like how the ps5 can't play like seven games. the same is true of bc with the ps3, hardware bc that is. if you're using software, it's going to be much lower as far as all games working 100%.

No, because I no longer have a ps3, but I know not all PS2 games are compatible with the PS3, I tried Xenosaga episode I-III and they struggle to play cutscenes, it is best to use the system specific design for that game to play that game.

So, I guess playing those PS2 games on IRISMAN on the PS3 wouldn't work even after installing PS2CONFIG.

Are there PS1 games which have problems even on BC PS3s?

Also, it seems some PS1 games can't be run on the PS2 and some PS1 and PS2 games can't be run on some PS2 Slims. What happens if those PS1 games are played on the PS2 in POPStarter and those PS2 games are played on those PS2 Slims in OPL?

According to what I read, PS2 discs may not work in this latest Evilnat release if using a SSD.

But that's the thing, they may now work in this latest Evilnat release.

Where you saw it stated 100% ps2 compatibility.

you're overthinking this. to expect everything to work perfectly is unrealistic. some things can be fixed through patches; others can't. I still encounter irritating bugs with the series x, very few with the ps5 and switch, so there's no much you can do about it other than hope problems are fixed, if they can be.

But it doesn't make sense some PS2s being unable to play some PS1 and PS2 games.

What about the part about not all PS2 games working in all PS2?

My guess it is a typo, because it never been 100% compatibility. Even with a BC (Backward compatibility) unit you still don't have 100% compatibility, beside the PS3 without BC is using software for emulating to run the PS2 games.

What typo are you talking about? I was talking about the PS2s which are incompatible with some PS1 and PS2 games according to this list. What happens if these games are run in those PS2s with POPStarter and OPL?

And what about the PS1 game compatibility list on BC PS3s?

Backward compatible ps3 mean it has hardware level compatibility for PS2/PS1 game, what ever you run is just software base, it is different than that list, there never been a 100% backward compatibility list, even PS5 have some issue running PS4 game.

OK, but the question here is that for @godreborn it makes sense for some PS2s to be incompatible with some PS2 games and for me it doesn't.

When backward compatibility is referred it is referred to the four model that is backward compatible, so not all model are backward compatible, and for backward compatible wise it states that most ps2 and ps1 games are backward compatible.

In my opinion all PS1 games should be compatible with all PS1s, all PS2 games should be compatible with all PS2s, all PS3 games should be compatible with all PS3s and so on.

He wasn't referring PS4 game running off PS4, he was referring to PS4 game running off PS5. Basically previous gen game on newer gen console.
